Teen sensation Mirra Andreeva takes on Belarusian neighbour Aryna Sabalenka in the last eight.
Second seed Aryna Sabalenka and Russian teen Mirra Andreeva booked their places in the last eight without too much trouble against their fourth-round opponents. Both players posted straight-set victories in the round of 16 at French Open 2024 on Monday.
Sabalenka took out Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3 on Court Philippe Chatrier. Victory over the No. 22 seed meant the Belarusian avenged the loss to Navarro from Indian Wells earlier this year. The World No. #2 needed just 69 minutes to end the American’s stay at the French Open.
17-year-old Andreeva entered a Grand Slam quarter-final for the first time in her rapidly advancing career. The young Russian dispatched the last remaining French player, Varvara Gracheva, winning 7-5, 6-2.
Andreeva, World No. 38, is unseeded at Roland Garros. She saved two set points at 5-4 in the first set and didn’t look back as she dashed the home crowd’s and Gracheva’s hopes in 91 minutes.

Mirra Andreeva vs Aryna Sabalenka preview
Sabalenka is in with a chance to take the Australian Open and Roland Garros titles in the same year. The last woman to accomplish the feat was Serena Williams back in 2015.
By winning 11 opening matches in Grand Slams in 2023 and now in 2024, Sabalenka has equaled another Serena Williams record. She is the second player in two decades to do so after the younger Williams pulled off the achievement in 2009-10.
Andreeva finds herself in uncharted territory, having reached a Grand Slam quarter-final for the first time. She is the third player in nearly two decades to make the last eight at the French Open before turning 18. Andreeva joins Amanda Anisimova (2019) and Coco Gauff (2021) who have reached the milestone before her.

Sabalenka has bested Andreeva once each year since their rivalry got underway. In 2023, it was at the Madrid Open round of 16. A repeat performance occurred in 2024 at the same event, this time in the quarterfinals. Both meetings ended with straight-set wins for Sabalenka.
Where and how to watch live streaming and TV broadcast of Mirra Andreeva and Aryna Sabalenka, French Open 2024 quarter-final match in India?

Prediction
Sabalenka’s powerful game is likely to dictate the pace of events. Andreeva, the second youngest woman since 2000 to make the quarterfinals at Roland Garros will have her task cut out against Sabalenka. The Russian extended her stay in Paris into the second week only to run into the woman who got the better of her in the Spanish capital for two years running.
Sabalenka’s win-loss record in 2024 stands at 29-7 to Andreeva’s 16-7. The lead carries over to clay, with 15-3 for Sabalenka and 10-3 for Andreeva. On the clay courts in Paris, Sabalenka is one 16-6 with a 2023 semi-final appearance being the best result.
A relative newcomer to Paris, Andreeva is in her second main draw appearance at the French Open. She is 9-1 at the venue and is in the middle of her best-ever run at a Grand Slam and Roland Garros.
Sabalenka might be just too big a hurdle for Andreeva to cross at this stage of her career. The Russian teen can play inspired tennis, as when she stunned World No. #6 Ons Jabeur in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open. Putting her best forward against Sabalenka could stretch the Belarusian on Wednesday.
Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in straight sets.
