Iga Swiatek vs Sorana Cirstea prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Cincinnati Open 2025

Iga Swiatek is a two-time semifinalist at Cincinnati.
World No. 3 Iga Swiatek benefited from an easy passage to the fourth round via a walkover. Swiatek’s third-round opponent, Marta Kostyuk, had to withdraw with a wrist injury. Kostyuk had posted a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tatjana Maria to set up the third round clash against the Pole.
Swiatek eased past Anastasia Potapova in the second round to go up 2-0 in their head-to-head. The match ended with the Pole taking the win, 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 13 minutes. The 24-year-old Swiatek now faces Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the round of 16.
The Bucharest native was compelled to rally from a set down to defeat 26-year-old Yue Yuan of China – 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-4. Cirstea was kept busy on court by Yuan for two hours and 50 minutes on Court 3 before the Romanian ultimately prevailed.
Cirstea converted seven breakpoints against Yuan, including three in the hour-long decider, before crossing the finish line while serving on her second match point.
The Chinese woman, playing for the second time in Cincinnati, bagged the opening set tie-breaker 7-2 to claim the first set, but could not keep up the pressure to let Cirstea sneak back into the game.

Preview
Every one of Sorana Cirstea’s three rounds has gone to distance at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. She began her campaign with a three-set match against Dona Vekic. A similar script was followed in her win over Poland’s Magdalena Frech. On both occasions, she let slip an opening set lead to let her rivals back into the match.
In contrast, Iga Swiatek has had it easy so far at the WTA 1000 event. The third seed received an opening round bye, took down Anastasia Potapova in clinical fashion in round two, and benefitted from a third round walkover by Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk to find herself in the fourth round.
A relatively easy draw in the second quarter of the competition will almost ensure the winner’s passage to the semi-finals. The winner of the Swiatek-Cirstea encounter will go on to face either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Anna Kalinskaya in the last eight.
For Swiatek, the newly minted Wimbledon 2025 Champion, Cincinnati and Canada are the only two WTA 1000s where she is yet to make the title round.

Match Prediction
It has been a routine start to Iga Swiatek’s Cincinnati Open campaign, while her fourth-round opponent and 35-year-old WTA Tour veteran, Sorana Cirstea, took the scenic route.
Swiatek holds the edge over Cirstea, thanks to a 4-0 lead in their head-to-head. Only one of their previous four meetings went the distance, at the 2022 Australian Open. The Pole conceded just four games in both their meeting in the 2024 season – on the hard courts of Doha and the clay courts of Madrid.
It will be uncharted territory for the Romanian, as she will play in the fourth round at Cincinnati for the first time. Cirstea has deep runs at WTA 1000 events under her belt, most recently semi-finals at Dubai in 2024 and Miami in 2023.
Cirstea likes to take the shot early and, along with her preference for flat aggressive groundstrokes, could trouble Swiatek, especially if the Romanian takes the fight to the Pole in the opening set.
While Cirstea has had to grind her way through a trio of three-set matches to get here, Swiatek will be well-rested thanks to a third-round walkover. The Pole’s preference to extend the rallies will test Cirstea’s composure and is likely to tilt the outcome in her favour, and move into the last eight with a comfortable win.
Result: Swiatek will win in straight sets.
