Italy defeated Spain to lift the 2025 title.
A dramatic finale between Italy and Spain ended with defending champions Italy winning their third straight Davis Cup title. The Italian side remained undefeated in Bologna to become the first team since the United States in 1972 to win three back-to-back titles.
Matteo Berrettini handed Italy the opening lead with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Pablo Carreno Busta in just 78 minutes. It was the second singles match between Flavio Cobolli and Jaume Munar that turned into a nailbiter.
Cobolli, who escaped with a hard-fought victory against Belgian Zizou Bergs, was forced to once again dig deep to pull off the win. The 23-year-old Cobolli rallied to victory in nearly three hours to subdue a stubborn Jaume Munar, 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 and secure victory for the hosts.
Munar did everything better than Cobolli, serving nine aces and converting three breakpoints to four aces and two breakpoint conversions by his Italian rival.
It wasn’t until Cobolli broke Munar’s serve to take a 6-5 lead in the decider that Italy’s victory appeared to be more certain. Cobolli did the honours, winning the final game on love to seal the outcome.

The 2026 Davis Cup title is Italy’s fourth overall, leaving them two short of Spain. Czechia (2012, 2013) were the last team to win consecutive titles until Italy managed the feat last season.
The Spaniards, now runners-up in 2026, have won the Davis Cup six times, their most recent triumph coming in 2019. Italy now lead Spain 8-6 in their head-to-head after their first victory since the 1997 World Group quarter-finals.
Italy’s top-ranked duo of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti were ruled out of the 2025 Davis Cup finals participation, but it mattered little as the Italians avenged their loss to Spain in their 2006 World Group fixture. Spain were playing their first final in six years and were without the services of spearhead Carlos Alcaraz.
