Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have won two grand slams each in 2024.

The 2024 season on the ATP tour has seen Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz share glories on the grand slam stage. They have become the first players since 1993 to share wins in the four majors while being 23-and-under. Sinner won the Australian Open and US Open in 2024. Meanwhile, Alcaraz captured the trophies at Wimbledon and French Open.

Sinner had not won a grand slam title until the 2024 season. He recorded his best performances yet at three of the four grand slams. During the French Open, the Italian reached the semi-finals for the first time while losing to Alcaraz in a five setter.

The Spaniard captured back-to-back titles by winning Wimbledon and French Open. He has now won three grand slams in his career at the age of 21. Alcaraz’s arch rival, Sinner has two majors at the age of 23. Both players’ success at the big stages in 2024 has clearly indicated the passing of the baton to the younger generation.

It is also the first season since 2002 where Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have not captured a single grand slam title. The records have finally been breaking as Sinner and Alcaraz are leading the way.

Who were the players 23-and-under to win the four grand slams in a single season before Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz?

In 1993, three players under the age of 23 shared the grand slam titles. Jim Courier at the age of 22 years and five months began with a victory at Melbourne by defeating Stefan Edberg in the final. It was followed by Sergi Bruguera’s win over Courier in the final of the French Open. Bruguera was 22 years and five months when he captured the title at Roland Garros.

At Wimbledon, it was Pete Sampras who overcame Courier in the final. Sampras lifted his second grand slam trophy of the season by defeating Cedric Pioline in the final of the US Open. Since then many young players have tried to accomplish the feat including Federer, Nadal and Djokovic but they could not achieve it. After over 31 years, Sinner and Alcaraz have managed to complete the feat.
