Jannik Sinner vs Learner Tien final prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: China Open 2025

Sinner and Tien will be meeting for the first time in their careers.

2023 champion and last year’s runner-up, Jannik Sinner, will be up against 19-year-old Learner Tien in the final of China Open 2025, hoping for a second title in Beijing on Wednesday.

Sinner saw-off Australian Alex de Minaur in the semi-finals, maintaining his dominance over the Australian with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory to extend his perfect record to 11-0 in their head-to-head.

Despite De Minaur’s spirited fight in the second set which saw him level terms, Sinner raised his level in the decider, breaking early and dictating play with his forehand to reach his 30th tour-level final and ninth consecutive hard-court title match.

The win also makes the Italian just the second player after Novak Djokovic to reach three straight Beijing finals. The 24-year-old Italian, who already lifted titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season, will now face American teenager Tien in the championship match.

Chasing his 21st career title, Sinner remains locked in a year-end No. 1 battle with Carlos Alcaraz, possibly trailing the Spaniard by only 760 points, should he triumph against Tien in the finals.

Preview

After dominating nearly the entirety of the match, and nearly sealing his fate, Daniil Medvedev’s China Open hopes ended in dramatic fashion against 19-year-old American Learner Tien. The Russian retired while trailing 5-7, 7-5, 4-0, struggling with cramps after blowing a 4-1 lead in the second set.

Medvedev could barely move in the decider but insisted on continuing. His effort drew a controversial “lack of effort” warning from the umpire, prompting heated exchanges in which he accused officials of “trying to intimidate” him despite battling through visible physical struggles.

Medvedev, who had beaten Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals, argued he was giving his best despite his limited mobility, demanding accountability from the umpire and supervisor.

Ultimately, he managed just two more games before shaking hands with Tien, sarcastically thanking the umpire on his way out.

Tien advanced to his first ATP Tour final, where he will face World No.1 Jannik Sinner, marking the pair’s first ever showdown on the circuit.

Match prediction

While Tien demonstrated incredible grit and resilience to stay in the match against Medvedev, he was outclassed by the Russian for nearly the entire battle, and eventually lost as a result of his dire physical situation.

Against Sinner, however, the American has little chance. The Italian, runner-up in Beijing last year, now has a clear path to the trophy against an opponent who promises much for the future but is still raw and lacks the weapons to truly test the top seed. A third title of 2025 looks well within reach for the 23-year-old Italian.

Result: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
