Jannik Sinner vs Taylor Fritz head-to-head record
Both players are searching for their maiden US Open title.
The battle lines have been drawn as US Open 2024 will officially witness a new champion. A mouthwatering contest is up for grabs as the currently ranked world number #1 Jannik Sinner will aim to win his second Grand Slam while Taylor Fritz will hope to make his country proud on American soil.
Top seeded Sinner has had an inspiring journey to the finals, riddled with controversy, accusations and hard questions prior to his campaign. He began the 2024 calendar year on a high, winning his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open. He had a decent outing at the French Open where he lost to eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz in a hard-fought semi-final.
Sinner won the Miami Open, beating Grigor Dimitrov comfortably in straight sets in the final and also triumphed in Rotterdam and Halle. At Wimbledon, however, the Italian was stunned by 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev resulting in an early exit.
More hurdles met Sinner’s path as the top seed was diagnosed with tonsillitis which ruled him out of the Paris Olympics. Many wondered if his purple patch would come to a premature end and the rumours gained momentum following Sinner’s loss to Rublev on his comeback at the Canadian Open.
However, the 23-year-old put all doubts to bed by triumphing in Cincinnati, securing his fifth title of the 2024 calendar year. Following this victory, Sinner addressed the controversy surrounding his contact with a drug substance after the Italian Open. He faced significant criticism, particularly from former players such as Nick Kyrgios and Shapovalov, among others.
Heading into the tournament, Sinner’s mental fortitude was under scrutiny, but his exceptional performance has reaffirmed his true capabilities and silenced his critics.
Taylor Fritz, the crowd favourite and 12th seed, has recently enjoyed notable success, with his standout victory over Alexander Zverev at the 2024 Wimbledon Championship marking a career highlight. In what is arguably the match of his career, Fritz demonstrated remarkable composure under pressure.
He replicated this resilience at the US Open semifinals, where he staged a dramatic comeback against fellow American Frances Tiafoe, winning in five sets after being down two sets to one. Fritz now stands on the brink of ending a 21-year American Grand Slam drought, with a chance to become the first American to win a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick’s triumph at the 2003 US Open.

These two players have met only twice with each winning an encounter a piece. When the duo first locked horns, Sinner was only 19 and hadn’t developed into the high-quality player he is today. On that occasion the American dominated him in straight sets.
However the more recent battle at the Indian Wells in 2023 gives a clearer picture in which the Italian prevailed in a dramatic three set contest. After winning the first set, Fritz fought hard to claim the second. However the decider went the top seed’s way.
The two players have never faced each other in a Grand Slam match before, making the 2024 US Open final their first encounter at this prestigious stage.
