Laver Cup: Full list of title winners
Laver Cup made its debut in 2017.
The Laver Cup is a yearly indoor tennis competition in which the best of Europe face-off against the rest of the world. It is named after Rod Laver to honour the tennis legend from Australia. The event follows a similar pattern to golf’s Ryder Cup.
Former player and legend, Roger Federer‘s management company TEAM8, Jorge Paulo Lemann and Tennis Australia co-founded the event in 2017. Federer played his farewell match alongside arch-rival Rafael Nadal at the 2022 edition of the tournament. The pair played doubles, which was a fitting tribute to the fans.
The Laver Cup works with a format that unites two teams of six players each: Team Europe versus Team World (everyone else). It is a three-day competition that is filled with thrilling matches. On the first day, the matches are worth one point; matches on the second day are worth two points, while those on the final day of competition count for three points each.
The first team to garner 13 points clinches the title. What makes the Laver Cup so different is that it includes big-time stars, most of whom are the world’s highest-ranked players who bring their serious A-game onto the court. In a sport that’s all about being an individual star, the Laver Cup brings a rare team spirit.
Its format, with matches being shorter and having a points system, keeps things interesting until the end. In matches, players can get advice from their teammates and captains, which certainly cannot be said for regular tour events.

Breaking it down into further detail, each team has three players qualify through rankings and three “captain’s picks.” There are nine singles matches and three doubles matches across the three days. If the encounter is tied at one set apiece, then the match is determined by a 10-point tiebreaker instead of being extended into a full third set.
While the players do not receive ranking points, there is money to be won. Teams emerging victorious from the encounter are awarded $250,000 each in prize money and appearing players are also paid appearance fees based on their ATP rankings.
