This is fourth meeting between both players.
Jannik Sinner, a two-time finalist at Miami, is set to face Tallon Griekspoor in the third round of Miami Open 2024. The Italian holds a 14-3 record at the South Florida event.
Jannik Sinner emerged victorious in a rain-delayed match against his fellow Italian, Andrea Vavassori, in the second round. The Florida rain interrupted the match between the two Italians, with Sinner leading 3-2, 40/40.
Unfazed by the unexpected break, the second seed breezed past Vavassori, winning 6-3, 6-4 in 80 minutes. Sinner, who arrived in Miami after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semifinals, faced no breakpoints and secured 92% (33/36) of his first-serve points in his second-round match.
Despite a slow start and squandering two match points in the second set tie-break, the Dutchman, Griekspoor, managed to edge out Alex Michelsen 7-6(5), 6-7(7), 6-4. Griekspoor lost a 6-4 lead when he dropped the next two points, surrendering the tiebreak to Michelsen 9-7 and, consequently, the second set.
Jannik Sinner vs Tallon Griekspoor preview
The Italian player, Sinner, continues to display good form with a 17-1 start this season. Until he met Alcaraz in the semifinals, Sinner hadn’t dropped a set at Indian Wells. He previously defeated his Miami Open third-round opponent, Griekspoor, in straight sets in the Rotterdam semifinals.
Tallon Griekspoor should be prepared for the challenge that lies ahead against the reigning Australian Open champion this Saturday. Griekspoor will aim to maximize his serve and forehand combination while challenging Sinner by pushing for longer sets.
The Dutch player’s strategy should involve gaining an early advantage by winning the first set. This season, Sinner has a 2-1 record in deciding sets, while Griekspoor is undefeated at 3-0.

Prediction
Jannik Sinner has an impressive record in Miami, having reached the finals in two of his three ATP 1000 events, and holds a 14-3 record on the venue’s hard courts. With a Masters win already to his name in Toronto in 2023, he is aiming to transition from runner-up to a title-holder in 2024.
Tallon Griekspoor is making only his second appearance at the Florida event, with his last appearance in 2022 ending in a loss to Francisco Cerundolo in the opening round. However, he has fared better in the other half of the Sunshine Double, reaching the round of 32 at Indian Wells on two consecutive occasions.
As Griekspoor prepares to face Sinner for the second time this season and the fourth time overall, this could be the match where the Dutch player secures a win over the Italian. Their in-game stats are identical, with both players winning 74% of points on their first serve and saving 66% of breakpoints. However, Sinner has a higher percentage of converted breakpoints – 43% compared to Griekspoor’s 35%.
Sinner is well-positioned on the ATP Stats Leaderboards, ranking second among the return and under-pressure leaders. The World No. 3 has an excellent record on hard courts, with 151 wins and 47 losses (a 76% win rate). Eleven of his twelve titles have been won on hard courts. On the other hand, Griekspoor has a 47-49 (49% win rate) record on hard courts, with his sole title coming in Pune in 2023.
Result: Jannik Sinner to prevail in two sets.
