The Indo-Australian duo rallied from a set down to win.

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden advanced to their third doubles semifinals of the year at the Miami Open 2024. The Indo-Australian pair overcame a challenging start against Sem Verbeek and John-Patrick Smith, rallying from a set down to secure a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7 victory.

Despite facing difficulties with their serve percentages, Indo-Australian Pair held their fort. They capitalized on crucial points in the second set by successfully breaking their opponents’ serve, forcing a tie-breaker, which they won, tying the match and ultimately leading to their victory.

Bopanna, who is aiming to qualify directly for the Paris Olympics 2024, must stay in the ATP’s top 10 by the June 10 deadline to qualify for the Games. He is currently ranked second in the world in doubles.

Bopanna has failed to win a medal in the Olympics. In London 2012, he and Mahesh Bhupathi made a promising start, reaching the second round. At Rio 2016, Bopanna partnered with Leander Paes, but they exited early. However, his mixed doubles run with Sania Mirza proved exceptional. They fought hard against the top American duo, Rajeev Ram and Venus Williams, in the semi-finals but narrowly lost.

However, in 2024, Bopanna made history by winning his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, briefly becoming the world’s top-ranked player. However, his subsequent performance, including a quarterfinal exit at the Dubai Championships and an early elimination from the Indian Wells Masters, has slightly lowered his ranking.

Bopanna and Ebden’s journey to the Miami Open semi-finals adds to their impressive start to the year, which includes a semi-final berth at the Adelaide Open.

Looking forward, the top-seeded duo is set to face the winners of the match between Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos and Lloyd Glasspool/Jean-Julien Rojer in a semi-final encounter.
