What next for Novak Djokovic after shocking exit from Wimbledon 2025?

The semi-final loss also ended Novak Djokovic’s run of six consecutive finals at the grass court major.
Jannik Sinner didn’t just win another match in the Wimbledon semi-finals against Novak Djokovic — his victory carried far greater significance, marking the end of one of the most glorious chapters in tennis history. The Serbian had reached the final at the All England Club for six consecutive years, and his incredible streak came to a rather disappointing end.
The top seed destroyed Djokovic, mainly in the first two sets, as the Serbian never seemed to have any chance whatsoever. The sheer domination left the centre court stunned, as the seven-time champion seemed clueless on a court he once ruled.
Such defeats are shattering, as Djokovic went down without putting up much of a fight. As he later admitted in his post-match press conference, the Serbian was struggling physically, with his age finally catching up.
The 38-year-old admitted that he felt exhausted at the end of the Grand Slam and was unable to fight with the same energy level and intensity with which he kick-started his campaign.
Djokovic escaped a horrific slip in his quarter-final match but quickly got to his feet. However, against Sinner, he clearly seemed to have difficulty switching sides and was seen giving up plenty of points between rallies.
How a fully fit Djokovic would have contested against Sinner is a question we will not find an answer to anytime soon.

While many argue, “leave the sport before the sport leaves you,” Djokovic has qualified for the semi-finals at all three Slams this year and is still easily the third-best player on the ATP Tour. With his recent statements reaffirming his hope to play Wimbledon next year, much now hinges on his body and physical fitness.
Djokovic will continue to plan and recover, with his next major target being the US Open 2025. There are a few Masters 1000 events in between, but his participation in them remains uncertain.
However, any immediate retirement has been nearly ruled out by the 24-time Grand Slam champion, who has expressed his desire to play as long as his body allows — with the ultimate goal of competing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
