Novak Djokovic has played in 37 Grand Slam finals in his professional career.
Novak Djokovic, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in modern tennis, has broken several records in his professional career. However, on a few occasions, the Serb has also failed to stay consistent with his performance.
Something similar happened in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon, where he faced Carlos Alcaraz for the second time in the summit clash. Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in only two hours and 27 minutes in straight sets to win the match. However, it wasn’t the first time the Serb lost in straight sets.
With that being said, let’s take a look at all occasions when Novak Djokovic was defeated in straight sets in a Grand Slam final:
US Open 2007: Roger Federer
Novak Djokovic played his first Grand Slam final at Flushing Meadows in 2007, facing Roger Federer. During that time, Federer was a three-time defending champion. Djokovic forced the initial two sets into a tie-break when facing the Swiss Maestro. However, he failed to break Federer’s streak of consecutive US Open titles and lost the match 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Wimbledon 2013: Andy Murray
One of the only two players to win multiple Grand Slam titles during the ‘Big Three’ era, Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. Murray was seeded second in the tournament and he went on to become the first British singles winner at Wimbledon since Virginia Wade in 1977. Facing Novak Djokovic in the final, Andy Murray exhibited his on-court prowess 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 to win his maiden Wimbledon title.
French Open 2020: Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal’s on-court prowess on clay has been second to none. The King of Clay has won an astounding 14 French Open titles, which seems like an unbreakable record for any individual. Due to the Spaniard, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have won a total of only four French Open titles.
In 2020, Rafael Nadal faced his arch-rival in the final of the Roland Garros. The Spaniard started the match by winning the first set 6-0. He continued the moments and won his 13th Roland Garros by stunning Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in straight sets.
US Open 2021: Daniil Medvedev
Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev won his only Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows in 2021. After defeating Felix Augur Aliassime in the semifinals in straight sets, Medvedev cruised in the final, facing Novak Djokovic. Interestingly, he defeated the Serbian tennis star 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to win the straight-set match. Until now, it’s Medvedev’s only Grand Slam victory over Novak Djokovic.

Wimbledon 2024: Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz has become the latest edition in the list after he defeated the Serbian tennis star in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic underwent a surgery knee surgery after the French Open and returned to Wimbledon after only three weeks.
The Serbian played his 10th Wimbledon final, his second against Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard also ended Djokovic’s 34-match unbeaten streak at the Centre Court last year. In 2024, he gave a much improved and dominant performance to win the match 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
