Novak Djokovic can speak 11 different languages.

24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of tennis. The Serb has won the highest number of singles Grand Slam titles in the sport’s history (24) and, at the age of 36, Djokovic still competes at the game’s highest level.

Last year, Novak Djokovic won three Grand Slam titles: the Australian Open, the French Open, and the US Open. However, he failed to complete the Calendar Slam as Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in the final of the Wimbledon Championships.

Nevertheless, the Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, known for his illustrious career and astounding achievements on the court, is also a linguistic expert. The Serb can speak a total of 11 languages fluently. The languages include:

  • Serbian
  • English
  • French
  • Chinese
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • Arabic
  • Russian
  • Portuguese
  • Japanese

The 36-year-old has often surprised the tennis world by talking in different languages. After Serbia defeated China in the group stage of the United Cup earlier this year, a journalist asked Djokovic to send a message to his Chinese fans. Replying to the wish, the Serb shocked everyone after he sent a message to his Chinese supporters in their language. Here is the video:

Novak Djokovic has done the same thing several times, as at the 2016 Madrid Open, the Serb gave an interview in Spanish after he defeated Feliciano Lopez in the third round. Here is the video:

Recently, the 24-time Grand Slam champion withdrew his name from the 2024 ATP 1000 Madrid Open. However, he was present in the Spanish capital as he attended Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Barcelona at Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday (April 21). At Bernabéu, Real Madrid’s chairman, Florentino Perez, also presented the Serb with a Los Blancos jersey.

The Serbian tennis star was also nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award, and the ceremony took place in Madrid on April 22. Interestingly, Djokovic was named the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for the fifth time. With his fifth accolade, the Serb equaled former tennis star Roger Federer’s five wins in the same category.
