Djokovic holds a 50-9 win-loss record in Paris Masters

Novak Djokovic heads to the ATP Paris Masters 2026 on the back of an early exit. Jan-Lennard Struff stunned him in the second round in Basel, Djokovic’s first loss to the German in nine meetings. The defeat also ended his 6-0 run at ATP 500 level this season, which included the Beijing title.

The Serbian, who owns a record seven Paris titles, is seeded 10th this year. Making his return after three years of absence, the stakes go beyond the trophy for Djokovic. The 39-year-old is two places short of qualification for the ATP Finals 2026, with four spots still up for grabs.

On that note, let’s take a look at his potential path to the Paris Masters 2026 final.

Novak Djokovic’s projected path to Paris Masters 2026 Final

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

Round 1 – Valentin Vacherot

First-round matches don’t come tougher than this. Djokovic faces a stern test against Valentin Vacherot at the Paris Masters 2026. The Monegasque stunned the Serbian in Shanghai last year and arrives with plenty of confidence after winning the Basel title on Sunday.

However, the quick turnaround from a demanding title-winning campaign could take a toll on Vacherot, who has had little time to recover before heading to Paris. Djokovic will look to exploit any signs of fatigue, and is known to produce his best tennis when the stakes are high.

Round 2 – Rinky Hijikata

If Djokovic gets past Vacherot, he will face Rinky Hijikata in R2. The Australian came through qualifying, beating Jaime Faria and Vit Kopriva convincingly. He then overcame Luciano Darderi in the opening round, dropping just four games. Djokovic will hope to prevail in straight-sets to energy for the following round.

Round 3 – Alex de Minaur/Andrey Rublev/Tomas Martin Etcheverry

The third round could be a showdown between two players on the fringe of Turin qualification, with De Minaur seeded eighth. The Australian will meet Andrey Rublev or Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round.

He was outplayed by the Serbian when they met in the Beijing final a few weeks ago, and hence Djokovic should fancy his chances this time too, thereby eliminating one competition for the ATP Finals spot.

Andrey Rublev is coming on the back of a four-match losing streak and has slipped outside the top-20 of ATP rankings. Etcheverry has lost his previous six straight matches, highlighting the poor form both players have been in. Djokovic is expected to advance into the quarter-finals, keeping his qualification hopes alive.

Quarter-final – Alexander Zverev

Top seed Alexander Zverev, who has just sealed the world No. 1 ranking, awaits in the last eight. He opens against Lorenzo Musetti in a mouthwatering battle. The German has won two majors in 2026, but Djokovic beat him in the Beijing quarter-finals and leads their head-to-head 10-5.

In indoor conditions, however, Zverev will be tough to beat, and the Serbian needs to be at his absolute best.

Semi-final – Ben Shelton/Frances Tiafoe/Tommy Paul/Francisco Cerundolo

The projected last-four opponent is either Ben Shelton or Frances Tiafoe, and the two arrive in very different shape. Shelton has already booked his place in Turin and has nothing to chase here. The American won the Canada Masters this season and reached the US Open final before losing to Zverev.

He is a dangerous opponent on fast indoor courts, where his serve and forehand can end points quickly. Djokovic won their only meeting at the 2023 US Open semi-final, but the American has grown considerably since then. However, his consecutive round of 16 exits in both Shanghai and Basel are a cause of concern.

Tiafoe is under more pressure as he sits eighth in the Race with 3390 points and needs a solid run to be certain of a Turin place, having lost his opener in Vienna to Lorenzo Musetti.

His section is crowded, with Tommy Paul, Holger Rune and Francisco Cerundolo. The 39-year-old Djokovic holds a flawless 2-0 H2H record against Tiafoe.

Final – Carlos Alcaraz/Daniil Medvedev/Flavio Cobolli/Arthur Fils/Rafael Jodar

Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz can only meet in the final, so Djokovic’s opponent in the title match would come from the bottom half. Alcaraz is the standout there and the most likely finalist. He clinched the Vienna Open title without dropping a set and displayed his best performance since returning from injury.

Djokovic and Alcaraz are level at 5-5 in their head-to-head, and the Spaniard beat him in the Australian Open final this year.

The rest of the half is not half as threatening for the Serbian. He holds a solid record against Daniil Medvedev, who has already qualified for the Finals.

Arthur Fils retired from his Basel quarter-final, and it remains to be seen if he has the physical fitness to produce his best level.

A maiden clash against Rafael Jodar could also be in store, with both players directly competing for a place in the 2026 ATP Finals.

A win in Paris would give Djokovic a record eighth title in the city. It would also help him qualify for the year-end Championships.
