Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev head-to-head record, last 5 meetings

Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev clashes have mostly been one-sided.
Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev last clashed in the quarter-finals of French Open 2025 where the Serbian legend came back from a set down to beat Zverev and send him packing. After three hours of intense tennis action, Djokovic triumphed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to book his place in the semi-finals and take one more step closer to an unprecedented 25th Major.
His h2h lead over Zverev also sprang to 9-5 in 14 meetings with the pair altering victories in their last five matches.
It is worth noting that the German was just seven, when the Serb great turned professional in tennis. In these 21 years, Djokovic has scaled heights which most could dream of. A total of 24 Grand Slams, an Olympics gold medal, big titles sweep, seven ATP finals titles and the record of occupying the number #1 spot for most weeks—the man has all this and more in his cabinet.
On the other hand, Zverev has had some tremendous results in age-group tennis. Unfortunately, he has not been able to replicate that at the senior level. This is not to say that he doesn’t own a trophy cabinet of his own. Most would be willing to take home one Olympic gold medal (interestingly, at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 semifinals, Zverev had shattered Djokovic’s dream of a Calendar Golden Slam) and two ATP Finals titles any day. However, one has got to feel that the German is meant for much more.
He has lost three Grand Slam finals: at the US Open 2020 against Dominic Thiem, where he was two sets up and the French Open 2024 against Carlos Alcaraz, where he was leading 2-1. He was then bulldozed by Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open 2025 in straight sets. Clearly, it is more a matter of temperament rather than skill.

The similarity in quality is visible, when Djokovic and Zverev have faced off against each other. While the records show that the Serb has a lead in the head-to-head stats, you would realize if you dug deeper that most of these matches have been closely fought.
The playing styles are not too different too. Both are aggressive baseliners. Both have strong backhands, although the 38-year-old is known more for his two-handed down-the-line backhands, while his junior is known for the slice. Both have a game suitable for all courts. Potentially, the only difference is that Djokovic is better with respect to his forehand and general court coverage.
There really haven’t been sparks flying when the two have clashed against each other. The two are good friends and have repeatedly complimented each other in public. The intensity is never low, though, when they meet on court. Every point is a luxury and freebies are scarce. And so, when Novak Djokovic faces off against Alexander Zverev, a new chapter to an illustrious novel is always guaranteed.
