Djokovic will aim to match Roger Federer’s record of eight titles at SW19.

Novak Djokovic will play his first grass event of 2025 directly at Wimbledon, for the third consecutive year. The Serbian is a seven-time champion at the arena and has reached the last six finals. His form this year has been turbulent, but the 38-year-old has done well in Grand Slams. He reached the semi-finals at Australian Open, beating Carlos Alcaraz on his way, before retiring mid-way against Alexander Zverev.

At Roland Garros, the former World No. #1 qualified for the final four comfortably, before losing to top seed Jannik Sinner. Even at the fag end of his career, he continues to be the third best player on the ATP tour, and another long run at the Wimbledon Championships cannot be ruled out, but the path will be challenging, due to his #6 ranking.

Match details

  • Tournament: Wimbledon 2025
  • Round: Round 1
  • Date: July 1
  • Venue: Centre Court, All England Club, London, UK

Preview

Djokovic will kickstart his campaign against Alexandre Muller where the Serbian will be looking for the perfect start to a potential 25th Major triumph, and he will only be boosted by his rival’s recent returns. Muller is a decent player on clay, and had registered a win over Zverev, a few weeks ago.

However, the Frenchman enters Wimbledon on the back of three consecutive losses, which the Serbian will be hoping to extend to four. Djokovic, on the other hand, plays his first match since Paris, and will be fresh enough and raring to go. Muller’s record on grass is highly unimpressive, with his best-ever performance at SW19 ending in the second round.

This opening round clash will be a re-match of US Open 2023 first round, which was the duo’s only meeting so far. Djokovic sealed the contest in straight sets, with complete domination, winning 6-0, 6-2, 6-3.

Match prediction

Djokovic is an outright favourite for this contest, and there is no debate about it. Muller’s poor form and average record on grass, don’t provide any confidence for an upset. While a win is certain, the spotlight will be on how well Djokovic is moving on court, and the ease with which the Serbian eventually prevails, as he looks to go the distance.

Result: Novak Djokovic to win in straight sets.
