Holger Rune made his ATP Paris Masters debut in 2022.

Holger Rune has made history after defeating Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals of ATP Paris Masters 2024. He became the youngest player since Marat Safin in 2000 to reach multiple semi-finals at Paris. Rune is making his third appearance in the event and made his debut two years ago.

Safin had reached the finals in 1999 at the age of 19 and won the title the next season. Rune at the age of 21 has now achieved the feat after more than two decades. He had won the title in his debut after defeating Novak Djokovic in the final in 2022. A year later, Rune lost to the Serbian in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile Safin went on to win three titles in Paris and ended his career in the event with a 24-5 record. The Russian played his final career match in the event in 2009 while losing to Juan Martin del Potro in the third round. When Safin had set the record in Paris, Rune was yet to be born and the former world No #1 won three titles by the time Rune was a year old.

The Danish player will look to equal more records on the upcoming editions in Paris. The event has been a special one for Rune as was the third title of his career and the biggest one yet. It is his only Masters 1000 title as of now. His win over Minaur this year was his 12th in Paris Masters and his only loss as of now came against Djokovic in 2023.

With only a handful of matches to go in Paris, Rune could become the first player to win multiple titles in the event after Djokovic in 2023. Before Djokovic it was Safin in 2004 who collected multiple trophies in the event. Djokovic has been single handedly dominating the event since 2009.

But this time with his absence, fans could see the coronation of a new king in Paris. Rune is the favourite to take the title and could do so if he maintains the momentum. He has been delivering so far in all the matches and needs to win two more to set up a monumental victory. It will also ensure a smooth qualification for him to the ATP Finals 2024.
