World No. 1 Jannik Sinner faces a tough path to the finals.

The draw for ATP Paris Masters 2024 has not been kind to Jannik Sinner. The Italian faces the prospect of running into Ben Shelton after being given a bye into the second round. It is a challenging draw for the World No. #1 all the way to the title round, where an opportunity to renew his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz is a possibility.

Having confirmed his status as ATP year-end No. #1, Sinner will look to add to his three ATP Masters 1000 wins in 2024 and his eighth overall.

Tricky matches against Holger Rune or Matteo Arnaldi loom in the round of 16. The last eight could witness Sinner go up against one of three in-form players – Alex de Minaur, Jack Draper or Taylor Fritz.

Rune, who opens against Matteo Arnaldi, will seek to repeat his run to the 2022 Paris title. The Scandinavian won a three-set final against Novak Djokovic for his maiden ATP 1000 trophy.

Fritz will open against Jiri Lehecka or Jack Draper in the second round. A third-round clash with Alex de Minaur beckons in the round of 16. A potential quarter-final rematch against Sinner could follow carried over from the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. Holger Rune is also a possible last-eight opponent.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz will have reason to smile after being handed an easy draw. First up for the Spaniard is Nicolas Jarry in the second round, followed by Frenchman Ugo Humbert and Casper Ruud or Tommy Paul in the last eight. A possible run-in with 2020 champion and fourth seed Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals is the earliest challenge he will face.

With the Paris results likely to determine the remaining ATP Finals places, Djokovic’s absence from the ATP Paris Masters 2024 means confirming the final eight line-up is unlikely until November.

Djokovic, the defending champion, announced mid-week that he won’t be participating at the Paris Masters this year. The decision not to skip the Paris Masters leaves his qualification for the ATP Finals hanging by a thread. Djokovic is currently sixth in the Live Race to Turin.
