Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest male tennis player to complete a Channel Slam after winning Wimbledon last month.

Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest tennis player to reach the final of the men’s singles event at the Olympics since 1988 in Seoul. The Spanish tennis star has been in stellar form this year.

He was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Australian Open by Germany’s Alexander Zverev. However, he defeated the German tennis star to win the French Open in June before he triumphed over Novak Djokovic in straight sets to defend his Wimbledon title.

Alcaraz entered the Paris Olympics 2024 as the hot favourite and he’s continuing his remarkable form in the French capital. The Spaniard started his campaign with a comfortable victory over Hady Habib. In the second match, he took down the Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor while he stunned Roman Safiullin in the third round.

Alcaraz later defeated America’s Tommy Paul 6-3, 7-6 to set up a semi-final against Canada’s Felix Augur Aliassime in Paris. Consequently, with a one-sided 6-1, 6-1 victory over the Canadian tennis star, he has entered the gold medal match

The 21-year-old Spaniard has become the youngest player to reach the men’s singles gold medal match since tennis returned to the Olympics in Seoul in 1988. He said after the match. “It’s going to be a really special moment for me, in my life, in my career, so I’m going to try and enjoy this moment, because it’s going to be really difficult.”

Alcaraz said looking ahead to the final, “It’s going to be difficult, but it’s going to be special… I will try to be focused on myself and try not to hear all this, all the fans, all the people that say ‘I’m going to win’. I just want to give 100 per cent my best tennis and hopefully I reach my goal to get the gold.”

The four-time Grand Slam champion will face the winner for the second semi-final, which will take place later on Friday. The semifinal will be played between 2008 Beijing bronze medalist Novak Djokovic or 2024 Wimbledon Championships semi-finalist Lorenzo Musetti.
