Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz will be in action on Day 5 of Paris Olympics 2024.

From Carlos Alcaraz to Novak Djokovic, all tennis stars are keen to secure a podium finish at Paris Olympics 2024. Djokovic has made significant changes in his workout regime for a gold medal at the Games, which has been missing from his trophy cabinet. Meanwhile, after completing the Channel Slam, Alcaraz is keen to win the Olympic gold at 21.

The initial two rounds of Olympic tennis have come to an end, and the top 16 players have stood strong at their places. With that being said, let’s take a look at the top five tennis matches to watch on Day 5 of the Paris Olympics 2024:

Tennis matches to watch on Day 5 of Paris Olympics 2024

Casper Ruud vs Francisco Cerundolo

Last month, Francisco Cerundolo gave tough competition to Novak Djokovic at Court Philippe-Chatrier in the Round of 16 of French Open. Returning to the venue, he has defeated Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile and Home Hope Ugo Humbert yet.

Meanwhile, Casper Ruud is familiar with Stade Roland Garros, having finished runner-up twice here at the French Open. The Norwegian tennis star has defeated Taro Daniel and Andrea Vavassori in her first and second rounds. Interestingly, he’s expected to have a close contest with the Argentine tennis star at the sporting megafest.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Roman Safiullin

Carlos Alcaraz will face Russia’s Roman Safiullin in the Round of 16. Safiullin, much like Daniil Medvedev, is playing as a neutral athlete at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 26-year-old has defeated the likes of Alejandro Tabilo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first and second rounds respectively.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz, who’s currently enjoying his Olympic campaign in doubles alongside Spanish legend and his idol Rafael Nadal, has defeated Hady Habib and Tallon Griekspoor comfortably at Stade Roland Garros. Alcaraz is a hot favourite to win gold at Paris 2024 and he’s looking forward to getting past Roman Safiullin without much trouble.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Sebastian Baez

Two-time Grand Slam runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in the Round of 16. The Greek tennis star won the Monte Carlo Masters in April. However, he has struggled with his form since then. The ATP World No. #11 has defeated Daniel Evans and Zizou Bergs at the Olympics yet.

Meanwhile, he has already been eliminated in the first round of the men’s doubles and mixed doubles event at the Paris Games. On the other side, Baez has relatively easier matchups in the first and second rounds respectively. In the first round, he won against Thiago Monteiro and he defeated Benjamin Hassan later.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Taylor Fritz

Italian tennis star Lorenzo Musetti is set to face Taylor Fritz at Paris Olympics 2024. Earlier this month, the two played a five-set classic at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in the quarterfinals. Fritz, who reached the semifinals of Wimbledon for the second time, was defeated by Musetti 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2, 3-6. 6-1 in an intense matchup.

Lorenzo Musetti is carrying a decent form at Stade Roland Garros. He has defeated Gael Monfils and Mariano Navone in his two initial games. Additionally, due to Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal from the Games, he’s played doubles alongside Luciano Darderi. However, the pair was eliminated in the first round.

Meanwhile, the American tennis star has beaten Alexander Bublik and Jack Draper in the two rounds but he’s also playing mixed doubles alongside Coco Gauff and men’s doubles, teaming up with Tommy Paul.

Novak Djokovic vs Dominik Koepfer

Novak Djokovic recorded a win over his arch-rival and 2008 Beijing gold medalist Rafael Nadal in the second round. With increased confidence, he’ll face Dominik Koepfer in the third round. The German tennis star has defeated Canadian veteran Milos Raonic and Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in the initial rounds.

However, facing Djokovic, who’s desperate for an Olympic gold, would be a huge challenge for the 30-year-old.
