Former World No. 2, Paula Badosa, was knocked out in the opening round of Wimbledon.

World No. 10 Paula Badosa continues to struggle with injuries, which is set to keep her away from tennis action for the next few weeks. This comes after Badosa’s first round defeat at the hands of local hope Katie Boulter at Wimbledon 2025.

The Spaniard has always been a player with the potential to achieve far more than she has so far, but recurring back injuries have repeatedly derailed her career and limited her progress.

Looking back at her season so far, her returns have been middling. She started well in Australia, reaching the semi-finals. However, there wasn’t much to take note of, in the rest of the hard-court events, as Badosa rarely managed to win back-to-back matches in any of the competitions.

At Merida, after her winning her first round, she led 6-1 in the second round before handing her opponent a walkover due to injury. Once again when the 27-year-old looked in some sort of rhythm, before an injury pegged her back. She missed the Indian Wells, but returned to action in Miami, where after performing well in the first two matches, had to opt out of the third round due to her recurring injury.

Badosa subsequently missed two Masters 1000 events, and then faced yet another setback in Berlin. Despite declaring availability for Wimbledon 2025, it was obvious that she had not regained full fitness, which resulted in her opening round exit.

Given the number of injury troubles, she’s had with her body, and the number of matches she has missed, it is indeed a miracle that she still finds her place in the top-10 of WTA rankings.

On July 14, Badosa shared a crucial injury update with her fans for the first time since her Wimbledon exit.

“Been disconnected for a while but wanted to update you on my situation right now. I’ve been going through some tough moments lately… Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with a tear on my psoas since before Wimbledon, and it’s going to keep me out of competition for a few weeks…

“These are really challenging times for me, but I’m staying hopeful that things will turn around soon and the light at the end of the tunnel will start to shine through”, posted Badosa, on her Instagram story.

In her post, she hinted that she would likely miss the Canada Open starting July 27, focusing instead on being fully ready for the all-important US Open 2025. Not only Badosa, but her boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas is also dealing with a shoulder injury currently.
