India’s top ranked tennis star in men’s singles, Sumit Nagal, will face the 40th ranked and top seeded Italian Luciano Darderi in the ATP 125 Perugia Challenger final on Sunday (June 16). Nagal, who lifted the Heilbronn Challenger title last week in Germany, will be eyeing his seventh ATP challenger title and third this season. In front of him is the Italian Darderi who recently reached the second round of French Open and has also won an ATP title this season, his maiden title on the ATP Tour.

Darderi, 22, has been in sensational form this season. Having started the season at 136th position, Darderi has climbed 96 places to be ranked 40 in the ATP rankings, that is set to further improve by at least three places when the latest rankings are out on Monday.

Added to his list of achievements this season is also his win over former World No. #10 and Wimbledon 2021 semifinalist Denis Shapovalov at the Rome Masters. Darderi’s only ATP title is the Cordoba Open that he won in February after beating Argentine Facundo Bagins in the final of the ATP 250 clay court tournament.

Nagal, himself has been in the form of his life this season. The 26-year-old Indian is currently on a nine-match winning streak on clay, extending from his title run at Heilbronn last week. Nagal, who has already set a new-career best position twice this season, is ranked 71 in the ATP live ranking. That could further improve if he lifts the title at Perugia later today.
