Preview: Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Bublik prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head: Monte-Carlo Masters 2026

Alcaraz and Bublik set up a big stage maiden encounter in Monaco.

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz got off to a flyer against Tomas Martin Etcheverry before being pegged back by the Argentine. The Spaniard survived in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, for a hard-fought victory in the third-round face-off against Etcheverry.

Etcheverry, the reigning Rio ATP 500 champion, clawed his way back to level the match after dropping the opening set. Alcaraz was let down in the second set by his 23 unforced errors, allowing the Argentine back into the match.

Alcaraz’s serve came to his rescue with five aces, while Etcheverry’s serve deserted him as he recorded five double faults. The 26-year-old Argentine was looking to make the last eight for the first time at an ATP 1000 event.

Alcaraz will now face Alexander Bublik after the hard-fought win on Centre Court, which took two hours and 24 minutes to conclude.

In contrast, Bublik needed only 76 minutes to cut short Jiri Lehecka’s time in Monte Carlo. The World No. 10 took control, winning the first set in just 26 minutes.

Despite a late surge by Lehecka, the Kazakh carved out a 6-2, 7-5 victory to make the quarter-finals in The Principality for the first time.

Lehecka contributed significantly to his own loss, committing 19 unforced errors and dropping serve 3 times in their third-round face-off. Bublik now moves to 2-0 in the head-to-head against Lehecka after winning their first match since the 2024 Dubai Open.

Preview

Alcaraz will play his 20th ATP 1000 quarter-final on Friday against Bublik. The top-seeded Spaniard is on a 15-match winning streak on clay, going back to last season’s Barcelona Open.

Bublik, the Spaniard’s quarter-final rival, has progressed beyond the second round for the first time. On Friday, he will look to become the first man representing Kazakhstan to reach the last four in Monte Carlo in the Open Era.

On the other end of the draw, Jannik Sinner was tested by Czech Tomas Machac. The Italian dropped a set for the first time since the Paris Masters last year. The World No. 2 survived the scrappy encounter with Machac, 5-1, 6-7(3), 6-3.

As the week-long event reaches its business end, Sinner will take on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last eight. Joao Fonseca will take on Alexander Zverev in the other quarter-final in the draw’s bottom half. Another Fonseca – Sinner clash will make fans happy after their high-quality match at Indian Wells last month.

Match prediction

Alcaraz is slated to play his third quarter-final of the season in Monte Carlo as he inches closer to retaining his crown. The stakes are high this week, with the ATP No. 1 ranking on the line after Jannik Sinner bagged the Sunshine Double, narrowing the Spaniard’s lead.

The stage is set for the first-ever showdown between Alcaraz and Bublik when they will fight it out for a semi-final spot at the Masters event on Friday.

The Spaniard will look to reverse course after an underwhelming March that saw him head for the exit earlier than he would have liked in Indian Wells and Miami.

While the Kazakh loves clay, facing Alcaraz will be a step up in competition. Bublik is yet to drop a set in the 2026 Monte Carlo Open, courtesy of straight-set wins over Gael Monfils and Jiri Lehecka.

Expect Alcaraz to raise his level after the close match against Etcheverry and advance to the last four without much trouble.

Result: Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets.
