Carlos Alcaraz has never lost a match against Alex de Minaur
Carlos Alcaraz and Alex de Minaur meet in the Vienna Open 2026 final, a match that will decide the title and, for one of them, much more.
Alcaraz reached his fifth final of 2026 by beating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, avenging his Indian Wells defeat to the Russian and ending Medvedev’s seven-match winning streak.
It is his first final in Vienna, and he is now 25-0 at ATP 500 level since losing the 2025 Barcelona final, going past Jannik Sinner’s mark of 24.
The Spaniard is also chasing a fourth title of the season, and a win would add to the Australian Open, Doha and Tokyo trophies he has already collected.
De Minaur has reached the final in dramatic fashion after downing top seed and soon-to-be World No. 1 Alexander Zverev 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4), converting his third match point.
It was his first win over Zverev outside team competitions, after losing all eight previous meetings, and it makes him the first Australian ever to reach the final in Vienna.
It is de Minaur’s 23rd ATP final and fourth of 2026, after Rotterdam, ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Beijing, and the win lifts him one point ahead of Rafael Jódar into the last qualifying place for the ATP Finals in Turin.

Preview
Alcaraz has bossed this matchup, having won all six of their past tour-level meetings. Their only clash this year came at the Australian Open when Alcaraz won in straight sets in the quarter-finals, after the local hope had broken back repeatedly in the opening set.
The pattern has been consistent as de Minaur can extend the rallies and even take the Spaniard’s serve at times, but has never found a way to win the key points.
Alcaraz’s mix of pace, spin and touch means he can shorten rallies when he wants, and the Australian’s speed does not trouble him as much as it troubles others.
De Minaur’s form, however, could help him change his fortune. He has played well all week and is unbeaten indoors this season, and has the extra motivation of a Turin place on the line. The question is whether he has the weapons to hurt Alcaraz.
Against Zverev he won the first set by creating pressure on serve and hitting a superb down-the-line pass, but he also needed a deciding tiebreak after a three-set slugfest.
Alcaraz, by contrast, has not dropped a set all week and has looked sharper with each passing round, winning 78% of his first-serve points against Medvedev.

Match prediction
A 6-0 head-to-head, 25 consecutive ATP 500 wins, and a week without losing a set, makes Alcaraz the heavy favourite. On a quick indoor court, his first-strike tennis should give de Minaur very little time to settle into rallies, and the Spaniard’s first serve is landing at a high percentage.
His win over Medvedev was arguably his best performance since returning from his long-layoff due to wrist injury. De Minaur’s second serve, which won only half its points against Zverev, is a particular vulnerability that Alcaraz will target on the return. The Australian’s route to an upset is to break his rival’s serve.
If he can keep Alcaraz hitting extra balls, mix in slice and flatten out his backhand down the line, the Spaniard may drift into the loose errors he has shown in the past.
Result: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
