Lehecka hunts maiden Miami crown against Jannik Sinner, who’s eyeing a second Miami Open title.

Jiri Lehecka put on a masterclass in his semi-final against Arthur Fils to derail the Frenchman’s campaign in Miami. Fils, who was on the comeback trail after an injury-related layoff, had no answer to the Czech on Friday, crashing to a 6-2, 6–2 defeat at Miami Open 2026.

It took just an hour and 17 minutes for the 24-year-old Lehecka to bring Fils’ campaign in South Florida to a halt. The Frenchman, who was not broken even once in the run-up to the semi-final, was at the receiving end of four breakpoint conversions by the Czech.

The No. 21 seed will play his maiden ATP 1000 final at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. Lehecka, a two-time ATP Tour champion, will face Sinner, the 2024 Miami Open titlist, for the fourth time on tour.

Lehecka avenged his quarter-final defeat to Fils in Doha last month and has reached the last four in Miami without dropping serve across his five matches played so far. He will bid to emulate countryman Jakub Mensik, who defeated Novak Djokovic last year to win the ATP 1000 event.

Lehecka will look to prevent Sinner from completing the Sunshine Double in Sunday’s final.

The World No. 2 claimed his first Indian Wells trophy a fortnight ago. Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) on Friday in an Indian Wells semi-final rematch and will now play for his second Miami Open crown.

Sinner’s rock-solid serve gave him early control of the match, gifting him 79 per cent (45/57) of his first-serve points aided by 15 aces to Zverev’s five. The No. 2 seed leads Zverev 8-4, having prevailed over the German for the seventh time in a row.

The Italian has a 3-0 lead in tour-level matches against Lehecka ahead of Sunday’s final. Sinner got the better of Lehecka in their most recent meeting at the 2025 French Open in straight sets.

Sinner is slated to play his 10th hard-court Masters 1000 final, where he will look to extend a record-breaking streak of 32 consecutive sets at the ATP 1000 level.

Preview

Sinner is now one match away from winning his second Miami Open title in three years. The Italian is looking to become the first male to win the ‘Sunshine Double’ since Roger Federer in 2017.

The Italian will be the heavy favourite ahead of the championship round face-off against Jiri Lehecka. The 24-year-old Lehecka prepares for the biggest tour-level final of his career against the four-time Grand Slam champion.

The Czech guaranteed himself a debut at an ATP 1000 final after knocking out a resurgent Arthur Fils. Lehecka will look to keep the trophy in Czech hands by pulling off an upset for the second consecutive year.

Lehecka will take a shot at Sinner a year after compatriot Jakub Mensik defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals of the 2025 edition.

The Czech erased memories of the 2024 Madrid Open semifinals when he retired halfway through the opening set of his match against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Match prediction

Jannik Sinner charted a predictable course to his fourth Miami Open final. The No. 2 seed navigated the bottom half of the draw without much trouble, his only test coming against a determined Alex Michelsen. The fourth-round match saw Michelsen take the second set into a tie-break before the Italian won 7-5, 7-6(4).

Following the loss of top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the third round, the top half of the draw fell wide open. None of the top 10 seeds made it into the second round, with Alex de Minaur (5), Taylor Fritz (6) and Alexander Bublik (10) all eliminated by the fourth round.

Sinner is on the verge of becoming the eighth man in ATP history to bag the Sunshine Double in the same year. Lehecka, his rival and unexpected finalist, toppled Taylor Fritz, 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2, in the Round of 16 for the ninth Top 10 win of his career.

On paper, Lehecka is a worthy rival to the Italian rival in Miami. The Czech is strong off both wings and is unlikely to hand Sinner any free points and make his Italian rival earn his pay.

Sinner will need to go the extra mile and extract something special to get the better of Lehecka. The Czech is in good form in Florida and could finally take a set off the Italian, but it is unlikely that he will keep pace with Sinner over the course of their match.

Result: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
