'They are creating their own story-' Rafael Nadal speaks on Carlos Alcaraz-Jannik Sinner rivalry

Rafael Nadal talked about the new rivalries on the tour ahead of Six Kings Slam.

The Six Kings Slam saw the arrival of the top stars in the ATP tour in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It also featured the interview of the players ahead of the matches. An interview with Rafael Nadal saw the legend sharing his views on the current generation of stars. He was further asked about the rivalry of Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and whether it could be compared to the big three rivalry from the past.

The Spaniard felt that it was too early to compare Alcaraz- Sinner rivalry to the big three. He said, ’We need to let them create their own rivalries and their own story. They don’t need the comparisons with us.’ Nadal said that their legacy can be compared when their careers are about to end. He further applauded their dominance on the tour especially at the grand slams this season.

The 22-time grand slam winner wished the duo best for their future. He also hoped that they stayed injury free during the course of their career. Nadal will be playing a few matches in the exhibhition event and it will be his pre-farewell event. He will be retiring after the Davis Cup Finals 2024 in Malaga, Spain which will take place in November.

Spain will take on the Netherlands on November 19 in the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup Finals 2024. Nadal could further extend his stay in Malaga as the semi-finals will take place on November 22 while the finals will be held two days later.

Rafael Nadal schedule in Six Kings Slam

Nadal has received a bye in the quarter-finals of Six Kings Slam and will directly play in the semi-finals. A win would ensure a place in the finals and a defeat would mean playing in the third place playoffs.

The 38-year-old will play his semi-final match against Holger Rune or Alcaraz on October 17. The third place playoffs will be held on October 19 which will be the same day as the final. He will be receiving $1.5m dollars (about INR 13 crores) for featuring in the event. If Nadal manages to win the title, then he will receive $6m (about INR 51 crores).

The veteran has played 19 matches this season and has earned 12 wins. He had reached his 131st career final at the Bastad Open in July this season. He could again light up the spark at The Venue’, Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during the mega event.
