Rafael Nadal honoured with first-ever ‘Dimoni d’Honor’ by La Liga side RCD Mallorca for societal impact

Nadal is the first person to receive the ‘Dimoni d’Honor.’

La Liga side, RCD Mallorca, have honoured Rafael Nadal for his contribution to society on November 30. The Spaniard and 22-time Grand Slam champion is the first recipient of the award, created to honour Balearic Islanders whose achievements have had a positive impact on society.

Nadal, who is himself a Mallorcan, was handed the award in the run-up to the match between Mallorca and Osasuna at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.  

The accolade bestowed by RCD Mallorca on the legend was the second of this month. In Miami, in early November, Nadal was handed the keys to the city by the America Business Forum.

In May this year, the King of Clay and 14-time French Open champion was honoured at Roland Garros with a plaque of his footprint on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

The Spaniard was recently spotted in action at the Rafa Nadal Academy in a sparring session with Filipina and rising WTA player Alex Eala.  After the session, Nadal posted on X, “It was great to practice with you! Next time I will be stronger.”

Nadal’s compatriot and heir to his throne, Carlos Alcaraz, is in the United States for a series of exhibition matches during the off-season and was spotted at a Miami Heat basketball game, where he was presented with a team jersey.

Alcaraz has been busy in Miami, where he later presented the MLS Eastern Conference champions trophy to  Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.  

Alcaraz, the reigning World No. 1, will share the stage with Frances Tiafoe, Joao Fonseca, Jessica Pegula and Amanda Anisimova at exhibition events in New Jersey and Miami in early December.

Nadal acknowledged RCD Mallorca on his official X handle (formerly Twitter), with a simple ‘Gràcies’ even as the accolades continue to follow him a year into the tennis icon’s retirement.
