Five records Novak Djokovic can break at US Open 2025

Novak Djokovic is a 4-time US Open champion.

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has reached the US Open finals 14 times but has returned with the trophy on only four occasions. The Serbian has had fond memories at Flushing Meadows, where he lifted his 24th major title.

Since then, the wait for another crown has extended, coinciding with the rise of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Despite advancing age and fluctuating form, the Serbian has reached the semi-finals at all three Grand Slams this year. He will be hoping that his consistency and hard work are rewarded at the final Slam of 2025.

However, he also suffered a shocking third-round exit last year and enters this edition without any hard-court preparation.

The odds are once again stacked against the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Yet, for a man who has built his career on defying expectations and silencing critics, the question remains — can Djokovic conjure his magic one last time at the US Open?

The oldest Grand Slam men’s singles champion in the Open Era is Ken Rosewall, who won the 1972 Australian Open at the age of 37 years and 62 days.

He defeated Malcolm Anderson in the final to claim his eighth major. At 38, Djokovic has the chance to surpass Rosewall and make this Open Era record his own at the upcoming US Open 2025.

Historic 25th Grand Slam title

Djokovic is currently tied with Margaret Court at 24 Grand Slam singles titles. Winning the US Open would give him a historic 25th, making him the outright leader in major singles titles across both men’s and women’s tennis.

This would further cement his status as the GOAT. The Serbian has been chasing this record for two years, having last triumphed in New York in 2023.

Joint highest man to win most US Open titles in the Open Era

Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, and Roger Federer each hold five US Open titles in the Open Era. Connors won the title between 1974 and 1983, Sampras between 1990 and 2002, and Federer won five consecutive titles between 2004 and 2008.

Djokovic, with four US Open titles and six runner-up finishes, first won in 2011, with his latest in 2023. A victory in 2025 would see him level the record for most men’s singles trophies in New York.

Most Grand Slam semi-final appearances in the Open Era

Novak Djokovic and Chris Evert are currently tied with 52 Grand Slam semi-final appearances. The Serbian reached his 52nd at Wimbledon this year and could surpass the American legend at the US Open.

He would also become the oldest man to reach the semi-finals at all majors in a single season, further proving his incredible longevity.

Oldest US Open men’s singles champion

At 38, Djokovic also has the chance to better his own record for the oldest US Open champion. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets at the 2023 final, becoming the oldest at 36 to win at Flushing Meadows, surpassing Ken Rosewall (35 in 1970). Winning again in 2025 would extend that record even further.
