Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard returns to defend his title at ATP Swiss Indoors Basel 2025.

The ATP Swiss Indoors Basel 2025 is set take place from October 20 to 26 at St. Jakobshalle, Basel. This ATP 500 event features the top tennis players who would be battling for crucial ranking points aiming for the Nitto ATP Finals qualification.

In 2024, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard defied the odds to claim the title at the Swiss Indoors Basel, becoming the lowest-ranked champion (No. 50 in the ATP Rankings) in event history. Perricard also became the first Frenchman since Yannick Noah in 1987 to emerge victorious in Basel.

A year after winning his maiden ATP 500 title, the Frenchman will look to emulate Noah as a two-time champion in Switzerland. Yannick Noah also won the title in 1982.

Two-time Basel Open champion Felix Auger-Aliassime is also in the fray at the ATP 500 event. He is bidding to book his first appearance at the year-ending ATP Finals since 2022. Auger-Aliassime became the first Canadian to win the title at Basel in 2022 and went on to defend his title in 2023.

Americans Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton lead the men’s singles draw as the top seeds. Shelton was runner-up last season. While Fritz is poised for his third appearance in Turin, Shelton is near certain to make his debut at the ATP Finals. Fritz’s best result in Switzerland was the quarter-final appearance back in 2018.

Fritz and Shelton are fifth and sixth in the Race to Turin ahead of Alex de Minaur, Lorenzo Musetti, and Felix Auger-Aliassime. De Minaur and Musetti are scheduled to play in Vienna as they attempt a last-minute push towards qualification berths for Turin.  

Scandinavians Casper Ruud and Holger Rune, who are familiar with Swiss conditions, are among those with an outside chance to make the shortlist for Turin.

Ruud has won five titles on Swiss soil, while Rune is a three-time semi-finalist in Basel. Ruud will hope for better luck in Basel this season, having yet to make it past the second round at the venue.

The Czech duo of Jakub Mensik and Jiri Lehecka will be looking for a return to form and fortune in Basel. Neither player has a win at the ATP 500 event. Mensik is making his debut, while Lehecka made his first appearance last year but lost in the opening round.

Mensik bagged the 2025 Miami ATP 1000 event for his maiden tour-level win, while Lehecka won in Brisbane earlier this year.

Up-and-coming Swiss player, Henry Bernet, who hails from Basel, and Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka have been handed wildcards into the main draw for the hard court event. The 40-year-old Wawrinka is a regular at the event and is slated to make his 17th main draw appearance at the venue.

Joining them is Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot, winner of the ATP 1000 in Shanghai and the first ever Monegasque to win an ATP title during his fairy tale run in the Chinese city.
