The final Grand Slam of the year is set to get underway, but the spotlight will first turn to three days of exhilarating mixed doubles action at US Open 2026 in the final week of August.
Last year, the newly revamped US Open mixed doubles made its debut and proved to be a tremendous success. The new format features several top singles players from both the ATP and WTA pairing up and taking on each other in a truncated doubles format.
This year, the entry list is even better, doubling the excitement ahead of the highly anticipated competition. The one pairing which will attract most of the eyeballs will be the newly formed partnership of Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams.
This will mark the Spaniard’s return to competitive tennis for the first time since suffering the wrist injury in April, which had sidelined him for so long. On the other hand, arguably America’s finest athlete in Serena Williams will mark her return to New York for the first time since 2022.
Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka form the second most popular pairing. The WTA World No. 1 will feature in this event for the first time, while the Serb will hope for better returns, having lost in the opening round last year.
Last year’s winners Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori will return, looking to complete a three-peat, while Casper Ruud will be hoping to go one better after reaching the finals last year, alongside his new partner Diana Shnaider.
Gael Monfils, in his farewell season, will be playing alongside his wife and WTA World No. 9 Elina Svitolina.
Taylor Fritz will be playing alongside Jessica Pegula, as Elena Rybakina withdrew after suffering an injury in Cincinnati.
Jack Draper also pulled out of the event and later withdrew from the US Open 2026 singles qualifiers as well. This year, there will also be qualifying rounds held, with two spots in the main draw up for grabs.
