Daniil Medvedev lost to Jannik Sinner in his only match at the Six Kings Slam.
On Wednesday, Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss against Italy’s Jannik Sinner at the Six Kings Slam tournament. However, despite the 70-minute loss, the 28-year-old earned a whopping amount of $1.5 million.
The loss would be a hard pill to swallow for Medvedev. However, he earned a winsome amount of $1.5 million, which sums up to $21,379 per minute or $362 per second. After the match, a post made by Medvedev in 2011 started resurfacing on social media, where the Russian international shared his happiness after earning $600 in ITF events.
In 2011, the Russian tennis star posted on Facebook he had collected $450 and $150 for his results on the ITF level. During the time, the 28-year-old even posted about earning his first ATP point, considering the fact that he’s also a former ATP World No. #1.
However, the former US Open champion has been vocal about the challenge of earning money in tennis amid varied tax structures for different countries. He has also talked about the staff salaries, travel expenses and other aspects.
He said, “My career prize money is $16 million, but it’s not that simple. First of all, at each tournament where you earn prize money, you have to pay income tax. In Russia, it’s 13% for residents, and 30% for non-residents. In France it’s 15%, in America it’s 30%, and so on.”
Earlier this month, he lost to four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the China Open in straight sets. Later, he came up short against current ATP World No. #1 Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters before he faced the same opponent in the 2024 Six Kings Slam.
Interestingly, Danish tennis star Holger Rune played 72 minutes against former World No. #1 Carlos Alcaraz to earn $1.5 million at the exhibition event in Riyadh. Six players started the tournament while Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic received a bye to the semifinals.
