Team India find themselves in a must-win situation in their Davis Cup 2026 Qualifiers Round 2 tie against South Korea.
Trailing 0-2 after losing both the men’s singles rubbers on Day 1, captain Rohit Rajpal’s side will need to win all three matches on the final day of the tie.
India’s day will start with the doubles rubber where Sriram Balaji and Niki Poonacha will pair up against Nam Jisung/Park Uisung duo in a must-win clash for India.

Korea lead 2-0 after a closely fought Day 1, with both opening rubbers going the distance in three sets. Today, India has a mountain to climb but first challenge is to fight back in the doubles and keep the tie alive. 💪

While India will deeply miss its top doubles star Yuki Bhambi, who was ruled out with injury, Balaji/poonacha will be the favourites against the lesser-known Korean doubles pair.
Should they win, Sumit Nagal will then face Kwon Soonwoo in the reverse singles rubber. India will need to win both matches level the tie and force a decider. If the tie heads to a deciding fifth match, Dhakshineswar Suresh, India’s hero from the previous round, will meet Hyeong Chung in the other reverse singles clash.
As they find themselves in a do-or-die situation, India will rue their missed chances on day 1. Both Nagal and DK Suresh started well before falling away, with both losing in three sets after winning the first.
Nagal started the second set on a promising note, and even found the break. Serving at 4-3, 40-15 and being just two games away from winning the contest, Nagal made a huge unforced error on the forehand. He was broken in the game, and the momentum shifted dramatically in Chung’s favour.
Nagal struggled to regain his composure and lost the second set 4-6. The third set saw Nagal fight back from a break down to level terms, but it was simply not enough in the end, as Chung found his rhythm, and executed backhand winners and drop shots with precision.
As a result, on a day where India would have felt they could have dominated proceedings and taken a 2-0 lead, the country now finds itself on the brink of elimination. This will indeed be a tough pill to swallow, as India had the opportunity to qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time since 1993.
