Top five title favourites in women's singles at WTA Stuttgart Open 2025

Iga Swiatek is a two-time champion at Stuttgart.
The Stuttgart Open 2025, a WTA-500 clay court tournament, will witness top seeds kick off their clay season. With only a few top-ranked players taking part in Charleston, Stuttgart promises exciting and action-packed tennis. Although defending champion Elena Rybakina will be absent, the tournament still boasts a stellar lineup, with Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek leading the charge.
Swiatek, a two-time winner in Stuttgart, is chasing a hat-trick of titles and also her first of the season while Sabalenka has three consecutive finals in the WTA 500 tournament between 2021 and 2023, twice to Swiatek and will hope to break that curse.
Among also the contenders are 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff, who is coming off a fabulous 2024 season and Mirra Andreeva, the now youngest WTA 1000 title winner. In this article, we take a look at the top five title favourites for WTA Stuttgart Open 2025.
5. Coco Gauff

After a disappointing start to 2025, Coco Gauff looks for form and consistency. Having struggled on her favoured hard courts, the clay season could offer a much-needed reset for the American. Gauff enjoyed deep runs at the French Open and Madrid Open last year and will look to recapture that momentum.
Recent performances have pushed her out of the top #3 in the WTA rankings, and a strong showing is essential to re-establish her presence in the tennis fraternity.
4. Jessica Pegula
Unlike Gauff, Jessica Pegula has been in fine form, having won two titles already this year. The American enters Stuttgart on the back of successive finals and has commenced her clay campaign with a triumph in Charleston.
As a result, she displaced Gauff to reclaim the World No. #3 ranking, having previously held the position in October 2022 and again in September 2023 after reaching the US Open final. With a better idea of the conditions at Stuttgart, Pegula emerges as a strong contender for the title.

3. Mirra Andreeva

Mirra Andreeva became the youngest to win a WTA-1000 event in Dubai and backed it up with another sensational run in Indian Wells. Victories over modern-day greats like Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina indicate that Andreeva can dominate women’s tennis.
Andreeva’s challenge would be to translate her hard-court success to clay. She announced herself in 2024, when she made the French Open semi-finals, and will be looking to assert dominance in her Stuttgart debut.

2. Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka holds the World No. #1 position and is ahead of the rest by a huge margin. With several points up for grabs for the Belarusian during the clay season, the top seed could be a force to reckon with.
Though she doesn’t boast a formidable record on clay, Sabalenka did dominate at the Indian Wells where the courts were slower. Having adopted a far more advanced and dynamic game style since last year, it will be interesting to see if Sabalenka can challenge the likes of Swiatek and company on clay.

1. Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek has an incredible 10-1 record at Stuttgart, having lifted the trophy in 2022 and 2023. The Pole was looking to repeat her remarkable triumph, but her record was broken by Elena Rybakina in last year’s semi-final. In the absence of the Kazakhstan star, the world number two will look to win the title three times.
Moreover, the four-time Grand Slam champion has not yet won a title this year. Her last title came at Roland Garros in 2024, and with so many points to defend during the clay season, the Pole must hit the ground running if she wishes to reclaim the top position in the WTA rankings.
