Paula Badosa withdraws from Tokyo, ends 2024 season due to health issues

Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa has withdrawn from the WTA 500 Tokyo Open. Additionally, she has announced that she won’t play any other tournaments in the remaining part of the 2024 season.
The former World No. #2 took to social media and revealed that she had taken the decision due to health concerns. Badosa also stated that he has a long season full of ups and downs. However, the Spaniard also stated that she’s happy with her performance in 2024.
Badosa, 26, wrote in her Instagram story, “Because of health issues I wasn’t able to play yesterday and won’t be able to play Tokyo unfortunately. My 2024 season has ended. Has been a very long season where I overcame situations, I thought they were impossible.
“I’m very proud of myself. I’m back where I wanted to be and where I was aiming since my comeback. (one of the best players in the world again) Already looking forward to recover well and prepare to represent my country in Malaga for BJKC. Thank you for the support always. See you soon.”

She made a return to professional tennis from injuries in 2024. At the start of the season, she was ranked outside the top 100. Interestingly, she’s currently 11th in the race rankings. She also won the WTA 500 Citi Open after defeating Marie Bouzkova in the summit clash.
Returning from a back issue, the Spanish tennis star reached the fourth round of the Madrid Open and the Wimbledon Championships. In the North American swing, she reached the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters, where she lost to Jessica Pegula.
The 26-year-old also made it to the quarterfinals of the US Open before her campaign was halted by Emma Navarro. At the China Open, Badosa stunned the likes of Jessica Pegula, Shuai Zhang and more to reach the semifinals.
She was supposed to face Russia’s Daria Kasatkina in the semifinals of the Ningbo Open but was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. Currently 15th in the WTA rankings, the Spaniard has ended her season on a positive note.
