Ivo Karlovic and Reilly Opelka jointly hold the record for tallest tennis players of all-time.

In tennis, height often correlates with power and reach, providing players with a significant advantage on the court. A towering stature can be a huge asset in the game, helping a player to use his advantage to the fullest and dominate the opponent.

Historically, tall players have been great servers which is confirmed by the data and the fact that most of the serve-related records like fastest serve and number of aces belong to the tall players. Let us take a look at the top 10 tallest tennis players ever, who had the leverage of their height over the opponents on the tennis court.

10. Juan Martin Del Potro (6 feet 6 inches)

Former Argentinian tennis player Juan Martin Del Potro was known for his powerful serve and aggressive forehand. He won 22 ATP singles titles, including the 2009 US Open, where he defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals and the five-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final.

Del Potro’s career highlights also include a runner-up finish at the 2018 US Open, winning an Olympic bronze medal in singles at the 2012 London Olympics and a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, capturing Indian Wells in 2018 and leading Argentina to the 2016 Davis Cup title.

9. Marin Cilic (6 feet 6 inches)

Marin Cilic is widely considered to be one of the greatest Croatian tennis players in history alongside Goran Ivanisevic. Cilic won 20 ATP Tour singles titles, including a major at the 2014 US Open and achieved his career-high singles ranking of World No. 3 in 2018.

He was also runner-up at the 2017 Wimbledon and the 2018 Australian Open and won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the men’s doubles tournament partnering Ivan Dodig.

8. Sam Querrey (6 feet 6 inches)

Former American tennis player and currently a professional pickleball player, Sam Querrey measures 198cm. He reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 11 achieved in 2018 and won 10 ATP singles titles. Querrey was known for his powerful serve and holds the record for consecutive service aces in a match with 10 consecutive aces served.

He also won five ATP doubles titles and attained a career-high doubles ranking of No. 23 in 2010. His best performance at a Grand Slam singles event was at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships, where he reached the semi-finals after defeating then World No. 1 Andy Murray in the quarter-finals.

7. Chris Guccione (6 feet 7 inches)

Australian tennis player Chris Guccione stood at 200.6cm tall. Guccione achieved a fair amount of success in doubles, where he won five ATP Tour titles and reached career-high rankings of doubles World No. 38 in 2014 and singles World No. 67 in 2008.

He had excellent serve and volley skills, making him a good doubles player. He also represented Australia in the Davis Cup, where he was part of various memorable victories.

6. Dick Norman (6 feet 8 inches)

Another giant player standing at 6 feet 8 inches, the left-handed Belgian Dick Norman was popular among fans due to his height and his long career. At the age of 39, he qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals in doubles in 2010, showing his longevity.

He was the oldest player on the ATP Tour between late 2006 till his retirement in June 2013. He attained his career-high ranking of World No. 85 in 2006 and retired from professional tennis after a long career spanning 22 years.

5. Kevin Anderson (6 feet 8 inches)

Towering South African tennis player Kevin Anderson is the tallest player ever to reach the finals of a Grand Slam. Anderson achieved his career-high ranking of World No. 5 in 2018 and has won seven ATP career titles. He also reached the finals of the 2017 US Open and the 2018 Wimbledon.

Anderson announced his retirement from professional tennis in May 2022 at the age of 35, but later announced his comeback in July 2023.

4. Jerzy Janowicz (6 feet 8 inches)

Jerzy Janowicz is the third tallest player on the list measuring 203cm. He is best known for becoming the first Polish man to reach a major semi-final when he did so at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships.

He had a powerful serve along with strong groundstrokes to demolish any opponent on his day. He reached a career-high world ranking of No. 14 in 2013, despite never winning an ATP Tour title.

3. John Isner (6 feet 10 inches)

Considered one of the best servers ever to play on the ATP Tour, the American John Isner stands at 208cm. He achieved his career-high singles ranking of World No. 8 in July 2018. Isner has won 15 titles in his career and has various records to his name. He holds the record for hitting the ATP’s fastest official serve ever in tennis at 157.2 mph or 253 km/h during his first round 2016 Davis Cup match.

He also has the record for the most number of aces in the history of the ATP Tour, having served 14,470 aces as of August 31, 2023. Isner was also part of the longest match in history against Nicolas Mahut, where he served a record 113 aces.

2. Reilly Opelka (6 feet 11 inches)

American tennis player Reilly Opelka shares the top spot with Ivo Karlovic, measuring 211cm. Opelka has won four ATP singles titles and one doubles title. He is also a former junior Wimbledon champion.

He achieved his highest ranking of World No. 17 in singles in 2022. Opelka also has a lethal serve and can consistently produce serves measuring over 140 mph.

1. Ivo Karlovic (6 feet 11 inches)

Croatian Ivo Karlovic jointly tops the list of tallest tennis players, standing at 211cm. He won eight ATP Tour singles titles between 2007 and 2016. He also once held the record for the fastest serve recorded in professional tennis, measured at 251 km/h (156 mph) before being surpassed by John Isner.

In his prime, he was considered one of the best servers on tour and held the record for the most number of career aces for almost three decades from 1991 onwards, with 13,728 aces to his name.
