Anna Kalinskaya makes her first tour-level semi-final since the 2025 Singapore Open.
Anna Kalinskaya eased into the last four of the Washington Open 2025 after a straight-set victory over Clara Tauson. The 6-3, 7-5 victory ushered Kalinskaya into her first semi-final since the Singapore Open in January. The unseeded Russian defeated the fourth seed Tauson in 95 minutes to set up a maiden tour-level clash with Emma Raducanu.
Joining Kalinskaya on court to celebrate was her dog, Kobe. It was a welcome on-court intrusion for the 26-year-old from Moscow as Kobe sprinted onto the court for a victory lap and a hug from the World No. 39. Kobe is spotted in Kalinskaya’s company as she globetrots to destinations on the WTA calendar.
Kalinskaya, a one-time top 20 player, ended Tauson’s hopes of progressing to the semi-finals at Washington. She also settled the score for her loss to the Dane in the second round at Wimbledon 2025. The World No. 39 now leads Tauson 2-1 in their head-to-head.
Kalinskaya edged ahead of Tauson when she broke Tauson’s serve thrice in the opening set, beginning with the third game to go up 2-1. Two more breaks of serve followed in the seventh and ninth games, and the Russian took the first set 6-3.
The Dane put up some resistance in the second set but could not prevent Kalinskaya from converting a further three breakpoints in the fourth, eighth, and twelfth games to wrap up the set 7-5. Fourth-seed Tauson threatened a comeback when she broke Kalinskaya’s serve in the fifth and ninth games of the second set.
Kalinskaya was a semi-finalist at the Washington Open in 2019, while Raducanu has advanced to the quarter-finals in 2023 and 2024. The British player’s semi-final run in 2025 is, thus, her best at the venue.
The winner of the Kalinskaya – Raducanu clash will go on to face either Leylah Fernandez or Elena Rybakina in the finals. The Brit defeated Maria Sakkari of Greece, 6-4, 7-5, in her quarter-final match to reach the semi-finals for the first time this season.
Kalinskaya and Raducanu have yet to drop a set all week. The former dispatched No. 8 seed Magda Linette with a bagel in the second set, 6-4, 6-0, to find herself in the quarter-finals. Raducanu posted an easy 6-4, 6-2 win over former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka in the second round.
