What does a Wimbledon champion receive? All you need to know

A Wimbledon victory comes with more than just glory.

Wimbledon is the most prestigious tournament in the tennis calendar, with the winners being awarded handsomely, in every possible manner. It is a day that the champion will never forget, as they are then recognised as one of the greatest ever to have played the sport.

After all, thriving on grass is no mean feat, with only those possessing a complete game generally doing well on these surfaces.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the privileges of being a Wimbledon winner.

A massive prize money

Both the male and female champions will earn a massive cheque of $4,069,500. The runner-up, too, goes home with $2,061,880 in the bag. The 2025 edition sees a 7% increase in prize money as compared to what Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova earned in 2024.

A three-fourths-sized replica of the original Wimbledon trophy

The champions are awarded a three-quarter-size replica of the Cup, which includes the names of all past winners and stands 13.5 inches tall.

The original Cup, crafted from silver gilt, measures 18 inches in height with a diameter of 7.5 inches. Its inscription reads: “The All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Championship of the World.”

The ladies’ singles champion receives a three-quarter-size replica of the Venus Rosewater Dish, which includes the names of all past winners and measures 14 inches in diameter.

The original Dish, made of sterling silver and partly gilded, is 18.75 inches in diameter. It is beautifully engraved with classical mythological figures and symbolizes one of the most prestigious prizes.

Honorary membership at the AELTC

Past Wimbledon singles champions are automatically granted honorary membership at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), the prestigious host of Wimbledon.

This tradition means that anyone who wins the Gentlemen’s or Ladies’ singles titles is invited to join as an honorary member. This year, legends like Roger Federer and Bjorn Borg were seen in the Royal Box.

Wimbledon Champions Dinner

The Wimbledon Champions’ Dinner is a traditional gala held after the tournament, celebrating the year’s winners. Since 1977, it has featured a customary dance between the men’s and women’s singles champions, symbolizing their shared triumph.

The elegant evening also includes finalists and distinguished guests, offering fans a rare glimpse of their champions celebrating in style off the court.

Cement their place on the honors board

The champion gets their name engraved on the honors board, alongside legends of the game. This list is dominated by Roger Federer in the men’s domain, with Pete Sampras and Novak Djokovic placed second with seven SW19 titles. Alcaraz has a chance to get his name on the board for the third time in a row, but Sinner gets in the way.

Wimbledon members badge

The Wimbledon Members’ Badge grants the champion two complimentary Centre Court seat tickets every day of the Championships. This exclusive privilege allows winners to enjoy the tournament as honored guests each year. It symbolizes their permanent place in the Wimbledon family and their lasting legacy at SW19.

Royal Box celebration with the crowd

Wimbledon is one of the few tournaments that witnesses massive crowds from day one till the final of the championship.

After winning Wimbledon, the champion often celebrates by looking up and acknowledging the Royal Box, sharing a special moment with the crowd, and honoring the distinguished guests in attendance. People gather in huge numbers outside the box to congratulate the players for their tremendous success.

2000 points

The winner virtually guarantees his place in the year-end final Masters and has 2,000 points to his credit, the most points combined with the other three Grand Slams.

For Alcaraz, as the defending champion, he will not gain or lose should he win, while Jannik Sinner will witness massive gains, having lost the quarter-finals last year.
