The Spaniard suffered a shocking round of 32 defeat in Miami against Sebastian Korda.

Carlos Alcaraz’s poor streak at the Miami Open continued as he bowed out of the ATP Masters 1000 following a closely fought three-set loss to 32nd seed Sebastian Korda. The Spaniard faced trouble on his second serve and Korda ensured he took full advantage.

The American claimed the first set and looked to run away with the second set as well with another early break. Korda was serving for the match in the second set but ended up hitting consecutive unforced errors to hand over the advantage to Alcaraz.

The Spaniard produced his magic to take the second set out of nowhere. Just when it seemed he would then run away with the deciding set, Korda raised his level, and found a crucial break, which proved enough to eventually emerge victorious.

Following the loss, Alcaraz remains the World No. 1 ranked player but his lead at the top has diminished. As expected, Jannik Sinner is quickly reducing the gap between him and the top position, with an excellent performance in the Sunshine Double.

When will Carlos Alcaraz return to tennis action after losing at Miami Open?

Alcaraz’s hard-court season is now officially over, and he would be satisfied with the start to the season. While he under-performed in Indian Wells and Miami, the biggest objective was triumphing in Melbourne and becoming the youngster ever to complete the Career Grand Slam. Moreover, he also won the Qatar Open.

The 22-year-old is next expected to feature in the first ATP 1000 clay-court event of the year. He will play in Monte Carlo, where he won in 2025.

The Spaniard will aim to retain his crown, which he claimed last year after completing a comeback from a set down in the final against Lorenzo Musetti.

This will be an important challenge for Alcaraz, as a failure will likely cost him the top ranking, with Sinner potentially reclaiming the position. The competition will kick off from April 5, with the finals set to be held on April 12.
