Elena Rybakina will not return to defend her crown
The WTA Finals 2026 will begin on November 8 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, bringing together the top eight singles players and doubles teams for the season-ending championship.
Defending champion Elena Rybakina pulled out of the singles field last-minute, as a result of which she will drop 1,500 points. The tournament will run until November 15, with the singles and doubles champions set to be crowned on the final day.
Rybakina will be replaced by Marta Kostyuk as the alternate player, who joins Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, Elina Svitolina, Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova.

Andreeva, Muchova, Kostyuk and Noskova will make their WTA Finals debuts, while Gauff and Svitolina return as former champions. Sabalenka and Pegula will also be eager to finally capture the title after finishing runners-up in previous editions.
The singles draw will feature two groups of four, with the top two players from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The doubles competition will also follow a round-robin format, featuring eight teams divided into two groups. Among the leading contenders are Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani, Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, and the Italian pairing of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.
With a total prize pool of $10 million, the 2026 edition offers significant financial rewards, including $3.37 million for an undefeated singles champion and $725,000 for an undefeated doubles team. However, this is a cutdown from the amount Elena Rybakina recieved last year after winning the WTA Finals in Riyadh.
