Mirra Andreeva, Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina will battle in Ningbo for a place in WTA finals.

The 2025 Ningbo Open kicks off in China’s northeastern Zhejiang province, drawing top WTA talent despite a wave of withdrawals. The tournament, elevated to WTA 500 status, stands as arguably one final chance for players to confirm their qualification at the WTA Riyadh Finals.

Top seed Mirra Andreeva, currently world No. 5, leads the draw with a first-round bye and could face Raducanu in a blockbuster round-of-16 matchup. The Russian has lost her way after a solid start to 2025 season, and is desperate for a good outing to seal her position for the Riyadh event.

The top half also features fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and eighth seed Liudmila Samsonova, both expected to make deep runs. In the bottom half, second seed Jasmine Paolini and third seed Elena Rybakina headline a strong lineup that includes Belinda Bencic and Clara Tauson.

Rybakina and Paolini’s potential semi-final encounter, might very well determine the player to finish the race inside the top eight. British No. 1 Emma Raducanu, returning from injury, faces Zhu Lin in her opening match. Unseeded and with no points to defend, Raducanu has a key opportunity to boost her ranking before 2025 ends.
