Djokovic and Sinner will go head-to-head for 11th time.
The battle between experience and youth returns as 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic gears up to take on two-time reigning champion Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open 2026 semi-final on Friday, January 30.
With a place in the final at stake, there is plenty on the line for both of them. At 38, Djokovic continues to battle physical challenges, but he is determined to chase the record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.
This year, luck has been on his side as well. In the fourth round, his opponent Jakub Mensik was forced to withdraw due to injury, giving Djokovic a walkover even before stepping onto the court.
In the quarter-finals, Djokovic was trailing against Lorenzo Musetti when the Italian retired injured, with the score at 6-4, 6-3, 3-1. That early finish meant Djokovic spent less time on court, which could help him stay fresh for the semi-final.
But now, he faces his toughest test yet.
Sinner arrives in red-hot form, riding a 19-match winning streak at Melbourne Park. The Italian has not dropped a single set so far in the tournament this season.
A win in the final this year would give him three straight Australian Open titles—something only Djokovic has ever achieved in the Open Era. In the quarter-finals Sinner claimed a straight-sets win over Ben Shelton
The 24-year-old also has the edge in their rivalry. He defeated Djokovic in their last two Grand Slam meetings in 2025 at Wimbledon and Roland Garros. He also beat him in the 2024 Australian Open semi-final.
Overall, the two have faced each other 10 times, with Sinner winning six of those matches, including the last five in a row. Djokovic’s last victory over him came at the 2023 ATP Finals.
