Carlos Alcaraz vs Tommy Paul Highlights, Wimbledon 2024
Hello and welcome to Khel Now’s live blog for Carlos Alcaraz vs Tommy Paul quarter-final match at Wimbledon 2024. Please wait for the blog to load.
Carlos Alcaraz is within three wins of defending his Wimbledon title after the 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 round of 16 win against Frenchman Ugo Humbert. Alcaraz took out the 16th seed after Humbert kept the Spaniard on the court for three hours to reach his ninth major quarter-final. Alcaraz has also equalled his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero’s nine quarter-final appearances at Grand Slams.
The left-handed Humbert threw everything at the defending champion, including 47 winners, including bagging a larger percentage of service points. Yet, it wasn’t enough to secure a win. Alcaraz’s has now set up a round-of-eight clash against 2024 Queen’s Club winner, American Tommy Paul.
Tommy Paul overcame a rain-affected match and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut to reach the Wimbledon 2024 quarterfinals for the first time. The American advanced 6-2, 7-6(3), 6-2 in two hours on No. 2 Court and maintains a nine-win streak. Agut was overwhelmed by the 11 aces and 41 winners unleashed by the World No. #13. Paul further broke Agut’s serve five times, twice in the first and third sets and once in the second set.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Tommy Paul preview
Carlos Alcaraz and Tommy Paul are headed into their first face-off in the ongoing season. Alcaraz, third in the race to Turin and Tommy Paul are yet to meet on grass. The upcoming quarter-final between the pair on July 9th will be their first at Wimbledon and on grass courts. Their five previous encounters have all come on hard courts.
Unlike the women’s draw, which served up plenty of upsets, results in the men’s draw have been predictable. All the tournament’s top five seeds among the man have safely reached the second week.
The winner of the Alcaraz/Paul face-off will go on to play either Jannik Sinner or Daniil Medvedev in the last four. Medvedev is looking for his first trophy of the season after coming close on more than one occasion, while his Italian rival will be looking to unseat Alcaraz while looking to win a second major title this year.
Sinner has a chance to equalise with Medvedev in their head-to-head, currently at 5-6, also giving the Italian a sixth straight win over the Russian.
Head-to-head records
Matches – 4
Carlos Alcaraz – 2
Tommy Paul – 2
The Wimbledon 2024 quarterfinalists have met four times on the ATP Tour, with the wins split between the two. Alcaraz took the win in their most recent meeting at the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati in 2023.
Prediction
In terms of their win-loss this season, Alcaraz and Paul are virtually neck-to-neck. Tommy Paul is on 31-10, while Alcaraz is on 30-6. On grass, the American leads 10-1 in contrast with Alcaraz, who is on 5-1. The Spaniard’s loss to Jack Draper at Queen’s is a factor in his 2024 record on grass courts.
The numbers are reversed at Wimbledon. Alcaraz is 15-2 at SW19, while Paul is on 9-2. Not to forget, Tommy Paul is playing his first quarter-final here, while Alcaraz is the defending champion.
The Spaniard’s 52–10 (83%) Grand Slam record plus his 17–3 record on grass courts compared to Tommy Paul’s 26–19 (58%) at Grand Slams and 20–11 record on grass highlight Alcaraz as the favourite to progress. Carrying over some of his clay court form should help Alcaraz coast through to his second consecutive Wimbledon semifinal.
Result: Carlos Alcaraz to win in four sets.
