Sumit Nagal has become the first Indian since 2019 to qualify for the main draw of the Wimbledon Championships.

Nagal has been enjoying a breakthrough year in 2024. At the 2024 Australian Open, he recorded three straight-set wins to secure a spot in the main draw. Moreover, he took down then World No. #37 Alexander Bublik to reach the second round of the Grand Slam.

He later won the ATP Chennai Challenger title by defeating top seed Luca Nardi in the final. At the Dubai Tennis Championships, he won a set against Lorenzo Sonego while he lost to Milos Raonic in the first round of Indian Wells.

As a result of his improved performance, Sumit Nagal reached his career-best ranking of #80 in March. The Indian tennis star stunned Matteo Arnaldi in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters, while he gave former World No. #7 Holger Rune tough competition in the second round.

At the recent ATP 250 Geneva Open, he suffered a first-round exit against Argentina’s Sebastian Baez after a gritty attempt. Sumit Nagal will be making his French Open main draw debut later this week. He also took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a post. He wrote, “Hello Paris”.
