Several high-profile names have pulled out of Wimbledon 2025.

Wimbledon stands as the most prestigious tennis tournament, and simply participating is a proud achievement for any player. However, excelling on grass requires a unique set of skills that only the most complete players possess, enabling them to compete against the best on this challenging surface.

Busy schedules require many athletes to consider workload management, and physical fatigue may cause them to withdraw from important competitions.

Moreover, some players who had less success on grass or were suffering minor but manageable injuries decided to skip the championships to focus on recovery and preparation for the upcoming hard-court swing. Here’s a look at the top 10 players who’ve pulled out of Wimbledon 2025.

10. Emil Ruusuvuori

Emil Ruusuvuori withdrew from Wimbledon 2025 due to ongoing medical and mental health reasons. He has not competed since a Challenger event in Zagreb over a month before the tournament, having only recently returned to tennis in February after taking a break for mental health recovery.

The Finnish has openly discussed his struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, which have significantly impacted his ability to compete at the highest level. Brandon Holt replaces Ruusuvuori to make his Wimbledon main draw debut.

9. Zhang Zhizhen

Zhang Zhizhen has withdrawn from Wimbledon 2025, capping off a difficult season marked by poor form and inconsistency.

Apart from a standout win over Hubert Hurkacz at the Open 13 earlier this year, the Chinese has failed to advance past the opening round in any tournament, including a first-round exit to Gabriel Diallo at Indian Wells. Lloyd Harris replaces him in the main draw.

8. Shang Juncheng

Shang Juncheng, a 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals participant, has been sidelined after undergoing surgery on his right foot and has not competed since.

The young Chinese talent was last seen at the Hong Kong Tennis Open, where he retired during his semifinal against Kei Nishikori due to illness. His absence means he will miss Wimbledon 2025, with World No. 101 Nishesh Basavareddy taking his place.

7. Sebastian Korda

Rising American star Sebastian Korda has been ruled out of Wimbledon 2025 due to a lingering leg injury that has disrupted his season, especially during the key grass-court swing. Korda’s standout result this year was a runner-up finish in doubles at Indian Wells. In his absence, the towering 6’7″ Chris Eubanks will take his place in the draw.

6. Kei Nishikori

US Open 2014 runner-up Kei Nishikori will miss Wimbledon 2025, marking his second consecutive Grand Slam absence after the French Open. A two-time quarter-finalist at SW19, this year might have been his final chance to compete at the All England Club.

His ongoing struggles with injuries have cast uncertainty over his future on tour. Nishikori missed the second round of the Geneva Open due to back pain. Now the pain has worsened, forcing him to skip Roland Garros and the entire grass court season.

5. Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios will miss Wimbledon for a third straight year after suffering another knee injury setback. The Australian, who last played at the marquee event in his only Grand Slam final in 2022 (losing to Novak Djokovic), had hoped to return this grass season after battling knee and wrist issues for over two years.

However, he expressed disappointment to fans by announcing that he was not ready, and promised to come back stronger. Ethan Quinn replaces him in the main draw.

4. Anhelina Kalinina

Anhelina Kalinina is the only woman to withdraw from Wimbledon 2025. The Ukrainian suffered an injury that forced her to retire from the WTA 125K event in Bari, ultimately ruling her out of competing at SW19 this year. As a result, Kalinina misses the opportunity to build on her previous Wimbledon runs, where she reached the second round in both 2022 and 2023.

3. Arthur Fils

Arthur Fils has opted out of Wimbledon 2025 as he continues recovering from a back stress fracture that forced him out mid-match against Rublev at Roland Garros. The Frenchman, who thrilled fans with a five-set battle earlier in Paris, has not competed since.

Having reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2024, the current World No. 16 will lose valuable ranking points and is expected to fall out of the top 20. His dynamic, aggressive style will be missed, with Fabio Fognini stepping in as his replacement, slated to take on Carlos Alcaraz in the first round.

2. Hubert Hurkacz

Polish star Hubert Hurkacz has officially withdrawn from Wimbledon 2025 due to a flare-up of a knee injury, citing “synovial membrane irritation” linked to past meniscus surgery.

The 28-year-old announced the decision on Instagram, emphasizing the need to prioritize his long-term health despite disappointment. Scheduled to face British wildcard Billy Harris, Hurkacz will now be replaced by lucky loser Dušan Lajović from Serbia.

1. Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud has decided to skip Wimbledon 2025 after a challenging clay-court season, which ended with an early exit at Roland Garros due to injury. The Norwegian, known for his clay-court prowess, was unable to defend key ranking points and has now dropped outside the ATP top 15.

Last year, he exited Wimbledon in the second round against Joris De Loore. In his absence, World No. 108 Elmer Møller will step into the main draw, as Ruud focuses on recovery and preparations for the hard-court season ahead.
