Carlos Alcaraz leads Frances Tiafoe 2-1 in the head-to-head record after his recent win.

Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes has lauded Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe for their performances in the third round of the Wimbledon 2024 Championships.

The American football quarterback was present at the Centre Court on Friday when Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe faced each other in the fourth round of the grass-court Major. Tiafoe won the first set after Alcaraz failed to capitalize on a 4-2 lead.

However, the three-time Grand Slam champion returned in the second set to make the match equal. Nevertheless, the fixture took an intriguing turn when the American tennis star won the third set. Interestingly, he was just two points away from winning the match in the fourth set but the defending champion made a memorable return to seal the victory in five years.

After the five-set thriller, Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes took to social media and lauded the two tennis stars for their spectacular performance in the third-round fixture. He wrote, “Great match!!! Much respect to @FTiafoe @carlosalcara.”

Before Frances Tiafoe, Carlos Alcaraz recorded straight-set wins over Estonia’s Mark Lajal and Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in the initial rounds. Meanwhile, Tiafoe defeated Matteo Arnaldi and Borna Coric in his initial fixtures.

The American tennis star said after the match, “I think this one hurts a little more than the Open. I feel like the Open I was kind of hanging on for dear life. This one was more one I thought was kind of on my racquet at times.”

He further added, “But in this situation of everything that happened before, leading in, I think this one I can honestly take confidence from and can’t hang my head too low. It was huge for me to be in that environment again and play a match of such high quality.”

The two have faced each other only three times on the tour. Their first meeting took place at the 2021 Barcelona Open, where Frances Tiafoe recorded a 6-4, 7-6 victory. However, Alcaraz and Tiafoe have played five-setters in their last two meetings, which have been won by the three-time Grand Slam champion.
