The previous record for the fastest serve in Wimbledon history was held by Taylor Dent, who blasted a 148 mph rocket in 2010.

French tennis star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has hit the fastest serve in the history of the Wimbledon Championships against America’s Taylor Fritz. The 21-year-old has broken the record with a serve of 153 mph (246 km/h).

Playing at Court 1, Perricard blasted a serve of 153 mph against Taylor Fritz. However, the rocket serve was eventually returned by the fifth seed, who also won the point.

The previous record for the fastest serve in Wimbledon history was held by Taylor Dent, who blasted a 148 mph rocket in 2010. Meanwhile, the Grand Slam record was held by the United States’ Reilly Opelka at 149 mph at the 2021 Australian Open.

Interestingly, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard’s serve barely made the cut in the top 10 fastest serves ever. The 21-year-old’s 153 mph serve ranks as the ninth-quickest serve in history and the fifth-quickest as per the official statistics.

The world record for the quickest serve in tennis is still held by Australia’s Sam Groth, who hit a rocket 163 mph strike at the 2012 Busan Open in South Korea. However, the serve is not recognised by the ATP because it took place at the Challenger level.

As a result, the fastest tennis serve recognised by the ATP was launched by former American tennis star John Isner. He also holds the record for playing the longest Wimbledon match when he faced Nicolas Mahut at the 2010 championships.

However, his 157 mph serve in the 2016 Davis Cup against Australia in Kooyong has earned him the top spot in the list.

Talking about the young Frenchman, he also smashed serves of 149 mph and 146 mph against Fritz and was averaging 137 mph (221 km/h) on his first serve and 122 mph (197 km/h) on his second serve.

Fritz, however, went on to win that match in three sets, coming back from two sets down to a thrilling five-setter. The 27-year-old won the opening-round contest 6-7(6), 6-7(8), 6-4, 7-6(6), 6-4 and has since advanced to the third-round, where he’s set to face Alejandro Davidovich.
