Top five youngest players to win a match at Monte Carlo Masters main draw

Gasquet is the youngest male player to register a win at Monte Carlo Masters.
The Monte Carlo Masters is one of the most challenging tournaments on the ATP Tour. Held at the onset of the clay-court season, it often delivers unexpected outcomes, testing players’ adaptability and endurance. Despite its unpredictability, only a few people have managed to leave a lasting legacy by winning the Monte Carlo title on multiple occasions.
Every remarkable success story has its roots in early beginnings. While some players took time to find their footing on the professional circuit, others captured the spotlight with their extraordinary performances at a young age, instantly earning recognition within the tennis world.
Today, we will explore the top five youngest male tennis players to win a match at the Monte Carlo Masters main draw.
5. Boris Becker – 17 years, 131 days
Boris Becker was one of those rare talents who took the tennis world by storm at a very young age. In 1985, the German notched a first-round win at the Monte Carlo Masters and later that year, made history by winning Wimbledon at just 17.
Although his strengths were more pronounced on grass and indoor courts, Becker’s early Monte Carlo victory marked one of the first major milestones of his ATP career.
Despite a stellar career including six Grand Slam titles, Becker never won Roland Garros, failing to reach a single final at the French Open. However, he had much success at Monte Carlo, becoming a three-time finalist in singles. His lone title at the ATP 1000 event came in men’s doubles, highlighting his versatility and all-court prowess.
4. Dinu Pescariu – 17 years, 10 days old
Dinu Pescariu entered the event as a qualifier and stunned the tennis world with his win over Franco Davín in the first round as a 17-year-old. While he lost his next match, many believed the Romanian could be the next big thing but the hype died down quickly as Pescariu failed to build a top-tier career afterward, achieving a career-best ranking of 75.

The Spaniard dominated the tournament and won a record 11 Monte Carlo Masters titles.

2. Bjorn Borg – 16 years, 312 days old
One of the earliest teenage sensations on the Tour, Bjorn Borg won his first Monte Carlo match in 1973, then dominated on clay in the years that followed. The ATP-1000 event proved to be a stepping stone for him, as the Swede won six French Open titles and became one of the greatest clay-court players of all time.
1. Richard Gasquet – 15 years, 301 days old
Richard Gasquet holds the record for the youngest player to win a main draw match at the Monte Carlo Masters. The Frenchman achieved this remarkable feat in 2002, defeating former French Open semifinalist Franco Squillari in the opening round.
Although he didn’t go on to win the title, Gasquet’s performance at such a tender age marked the emergence of a future top-10 player on the global stage.
