Road to UFC season 3 episode 1 results

Women’s Flyweight: Wang Cong defeated Paula Luna by submission (arm-triangle choke), Round 1, 3:04

Wang Cong kicked off the second episode of Season 3 with a dominant performance against Paula Luna in a non-tournament flyweight bout. Luna aimed to neutralize Wang’s striking by taking the fight to the ground, but Wang capitalized on Luna’s leg lock attempts. From the top position, Wang displayed her growing submission skills, transitioning to a mounted guillotine and securing the tap.

Women’s Strawweight: Dong Huaxiang defeated Priya Sharma by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

In a low-output, limited-action fight, neither woman found much success on the feet. However, Dong excelled when grappling, even taking Sharma’s back at one point. The judges unanimously awarded Dong the win, earning her a spot against the winner of the upcoming Shi Ming vs. YeDam Seo bout.

Featherweight: Masuto Kawana defeated Song Young-Jae by unanimous decision (30-26, 29-27, 29-27)

Masuto Kawana advanced to the second round of the featherweight tournament with a dominant win over Song Young Jae. In the first round, Kawana used his wrestling to control Song. In the second and third rounds, he mixed in striking to create grappling opportunities, looking especially dominant in the final round. Kawana won unanimously, moving to 10-3, and now awaits the winner of the Xie Bin vs. Yibugele bout.

Women’s Strawweight: Shi Ming defeated Seo Ye-dam by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Strawweight Ye Dam Seo and Shi Ming fought for 15 minutes to decide who would meet Dong Huaxiang in the semifinals. In the first round, Shi struck with a knee to Seo’s chin, down the South Korean fighter, who was able to recover and avoid being finished. Seo battled her way back into the fight, utilizing her grappling to slow things down in the second round before the two swapped strikes and fought tooth and nail until the conclusion.

Featherweight: Xie Bin defeated Yibugele by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Xie Bin took advantage of his third opportunity to participate in a UFC tryout, defeating Yibugele to cap off the second of Saturday’s Road to UFC events in Shanghai. The 26-year-old Xie displayed more patience against Yibugele, striking huge smashes in spurts and maintaining poised when he cleanly stung his opponent.

After losing a split decision on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021 and a quick submission loss to eventual tournament winner Jeong Yeong Lee in the first season of Road to UFC, “The Stalker” finally put in a full effort and won, punching his ticket to the semifinals.
