Prime Volleyball League: Full list of winners

The Prime Volleyball League 2025 season featured the highest international participation yet.
The very first edition of the Prime Volleyball League was played in 2022, and as each year passed, the league has only grown bigger. It has witnessed thrilling games and the emergence of players like Jerome Vinith, Vinit Kumar, and Angamuthu Ramaswamy.
Some teams held their nerves in crunch moments and went on to secure a title and etch their names into the history books. Let’s take a look at the winners from every PVL season, while also shedding light on their performances in the league stage and the playoffs.
Past winners of Prime Volleyball League
2022: Kolkata Thunderbolts
A total of 24 games took place in the inaugural edition between seven teams. Each team locked horns against the other teams in a single round-robin format. The top four teams after the end of the league stage qualified for the playoffs.
The Muthusamy Appavu-led Ahmedabad Defenders finished first with five victories in six appearances. Under the leadership of Ashwal Rai, Kolkata Thunderbolts finished second in the table with four wins in six games. Calicut Heroes and Hyderabad Black Hawks finished third and fourth, respectively, with three wins each.
The Defenders beat the Hawks 3-1 in the semi-final, while the Thunderbolts beat Heroes 3-0. In the final, Thunderbolts were crowned as the winners after winning three straight sets with a scoreline of 13–15, 10–15, 12–15.
Vinit Kumar bagged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for scoring 82 points, including 12 points in the summit clash.
2023: Ahmedabad Defenders
Although Muthusamy Appavu did well to take the team to the final in 2022, Angamuthu Ramaswamy was announced as the captain of the Defenders this season.
The franchise saw the addition of another team, as the sides played 31 games. Each team played against the other seven teams once, and the top four progressed to the playoffs.
The Thunderbolts maintained their supreme form to finish as table-toppers with six victories in seven games. The Defenders came second with five wins, while the Heroes and Bengaluru Torpedoes took the subsequent positions after securing four victories each.

In the semifinal, Torpedoes stunned the defending champions, Thunderbolts, by claiming a 3-1 victory. Meanwhile, the Defenders won in a similar manner against the Heroes.
The final was a closely contested affair, with the Defenders taking down the Torpedoes 15-7, 15-10, 18-20, 13-15, 15-10 to win the title in a thrilling fashion.
Guru Prasanth won the MVP award after emerging as the player with the most points (114), while holding a 52.58% attack success rate.
2024: Calicut Heroes
This season proved to be a redemption for a franchise who were rewarded for their consistent showing in the league.
A total of 36 matches took place in the 2024 edition, which saw the participation of nine teams. With a single round-robin format, each team played against the others once, and the top five teams qualified for the Super 5s.
The Calicut Heroes and Delhi Toofans finished first and second, respectively, with six wins. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Defenders, Bengaluru Torpedoes, and Mumbai Meteors took the next positions with five victories each.
After the Super 5 stage, the Heroes and Toofans met in the final. The Heroes won the title after defeating the Delhi-based franchise 3-1 (15-13, 15-10, 13-15, 15-12). Heroes’ star Jerome Vinith was a recipient of the MVP award after he scored a whopping 161 points.
2025: Bengaluru Torpedoes
The fourth season of the Prime Volleyball League was the biggest in the tournament’s history, featuring ten teams, including new entrants Goa Guardians, in a single round-robin format. The event was held at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
In a year that saw the most international participation yet, with players from more than ten countries and American setter Matt West captaining Bengaluru, the Torpedoes kicked off their campiagn with a come-from-behind win against the Goa Guardians.
They carried their strong form into the playoffs and eventually in the final, defeated the Mumbai Meteors 15–13, 16–4, 15–13 to clinch their first-ever PVL title. Joel Benjamin was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his impact throughout the tournament.
