India has won four medals to date at the ranking series
India’s Manisha won gold medal in the women’s 65kg weight category at the Bishkek Ranking series 2023 held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. On the other hand, teammates Sarita (59kg) and Reetika (72kg) won the bronze and silver medals respectively taking India’s tally to four medals (gold -1, silver – 1, bronze – 2). Earlier Greco Roman wrestler Manjeet won the bronze in men’s 55kg and opened the medals tally for India.
Manisha won four matches in the four rounds she completed which helped her win the gold medal. In the Nordic tournament, the wrestler with the highest number of victories will be ranked first.
What is Nordic System?
The Nordic format is employed in wrestling if there are fewer than six wrestlers in a particular weight category. In such a scenario each wrestler will have a bout against each other in the respective round. Only five wrestlers entered the tournament in the women’s 65kg and Manisha topped the category with four wins.
Sarita Mor made it to the semi-finals by winning two qualification matches in the 59kg category. She lost a closely contested semi-final bout against Solomila Vynnyk (4-5) but came back strongly to win the bronze medal. Meanwhile, Reetika in the 72kg category won a single match to qualify for the final but lost to Zhamila Bakbergenova to settle for silver.
