Olympic silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya will lead the Indian charge in his first competition of the year.

The Bishkek Ranking Series 2023 is slated to be held from June 1 to June 4, 2023, with more than 400 wrestlers set to compete in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The Kaba Uulu Kozhomkul & Raatbek Sanatbaev will be the third-ranking series of the year and will feature 29 continental champions who secured gold medals in recently held wrestling championships worldwide. The first (Zagreb Open) and second ranking series (Ibrahim Moustafa) were held from February 01-05, 2023 and February 23-26, 2023, respectively.

India will be fielding the Tokyo Olympics 2020 silver medalist Ravi Kumar Dahiya, who will be leading the nation in a new weight category, the men’s 61kg. This will be Ravi’s first event since competing at the World Wrestling Championships 2022. In addition to Ravi, Aman Sehrawat, the gold medalist at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023, will also compete in the same weight class.

Other wrestlers to watch out for at the event are Rupin, Nisha Dahiya, Manisha, Priya, who won medals at the Asian Championships. Zagreb Open bronze medalist Ashu, and World Championships medalists Sarita Mor and Deepak Punia.

The Bishkek Ranking Series 2023, also known as the Kaba Uulu Kozhomkul & Raatbek Sanatbaev wrestling series, will mark Ravi Kumar Dahiya's return to the mat after a long spell away with injury. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist was last seen in action at the 2022 World Championships last September before a knee injury just ahead of Ibrahim Moustafa Ranking Series in February ruled him out for months.

Fellow Olympics medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and two-time World Championships bronze medallist Vinesh Phogat will once again miss the ranking series as they continue their protest against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

India at the Bishkek Ranking Series 2023

Deepak Punia and Sarita Mor will be hoping to deliver a better performance than their dismal show at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 where the two senior members couldn’t bag any medals, ending their campaign in the quarters of men’s 92 kg and Round 3 of women’s 59 kg respectively.

At the Ibrahim Moustafa Ranking Series 2023, India won two medals with Ankita Gulia clinching the bronze in the men’s Greco Roman 72 kg and Reetika in the women’s wrestling. Likewise, in the first ranking series, Zagreb Open 2023, freestyle wrestler Aman and Greco-Roman wrestler Ashu were the two medalists as both clinched the bronze medals. Aman had skipped the Ibrahim Moustafa Ranking Series 2023 but will be competing at the Bishkek Ranking Series.
